A buddy of mine just bought a brand new 883 HD sportster :( . I was just curious if my 95 gs could take it or not. I know i'll take him the twisties for sure. whatch guys think? He his also a new rider and have 3 years under my belt.
thanks for the input
883's are quiiiiite slow.
Where is the Baby G going to take the Snortster...on a date? JK...I've owned and rode both bikes and the little GS is definitely quicker accelerating if you wind it up. However if you have both bikes on, say, a two-lane hwy and you want to pass a car going about 45 or so, then with the Sporty all you gotta do is roll on the throttle. The Baby G needs some lower gears to get the ooomph to pass quick enough. As far as top-end it feels like a toss-up to me. Don't get me wrong here, I love my little GS500, but it will never be the all-around scooter that ANY HD is...to me and about so many million others that is. Love the Baby GS and this forum.
C.......
When i had my 250 my dads 883 looked normal, ever since i got my speed four and started parking it in the garage next to his, the sportster kinda looks like a little toy, i almost feel bad, almost
I almost beat a stock 1200, new style engine last year, he was slowly pullin away. I think I could take him now with the mods Ive done to my bike, It would be real close though
Yeah.. my dad had a 1200 Sportster and now has a FXDWG and I think the GS is right about in the same ballpark acceleration wise, even if it is a totally different experience (read: torque...). I've never ridden an 883, but going from that, I'd say you could take an 883.
trey
not to hijack this tread, but sprint 9, what is that rear tire your showing in your photobucket pics, is that on a stock rim, that looks sweeeeet. what size?
the gs is gonna be faster, but you get more respect on the harley. i would know i have an '04 gs and an '05 harley 883L.
Thanks a ton for the input!! :)

Its a Bandit 400 wheel which is a half inch wider then the stocker, the tire is a 150/70 Metzler Z6. It is a tight fit, about 1/16 to an 1/8 between the chain and the brake arm.
