anyone interested in these. they relocate your plate to your swingarm. i saw them on e-bay for other bikes and i e-mailed him for making them for the gs. he said no problem. on e-bay he is selling them for 40-50, but he said he does quanity discounts. just wondering if there is any interest before i call him. just want an idea of number of takers. :thumb:

My interest is piqued. . .
Photos whet my appitite. . .

I'm interested, it would make an undertail or highmount exhaist easier as well.
thanx dom for posting the pics. makes things a lot easier. i have no clue how to do it. :thumb:
I think it would be pretty cool too. Price would have to come down a bit. . .
I was wondering about the legality but it looks like Texas law would allow it.

You might want to check your own state before spending the $$.
In some places, improper display is a good excuse for Sheriff Coltrane to pull you over.
Yeah,
Hey, I would get one also. I always wanted another place to put the plate to make it look smoother in the back. I know its legal where i live, cauz all the cruisers have that and not once did they get pulled over on the street for bike rallys and shaZam!. Yeah, keep me posted, i wouldnt mind having one of those :thumb:
...that looks pretty neat....my concern would be about wiring up a light for it.....don't you need to have the plate lighted up in most states.....most bikes get away without one if the plate is below the brake lights (because they also serve as rear running lights.)....
....just my 2 sense.....
$40 seems retardedly expensive if you ask me.
a friend of mine paid $300 for one for his busa, now that's insane. i talked to the guy earlier. i have to send him some pics of the swingarm tomorrow, then we will talk cost. just curious what color you guys would be interested in. as dom posted the pics, they make polished or black.
i know of a few people with them and they never had any problems with them........yet :dunno:
tell him to make it
i will. i'm going to talk to him again tomorrow.
You can use something like this to light up the license plate:
http://www.1tail.com/sa/cart/detail.asp?pg={945F60AE-E059-4EA9-BD18-E2B709C4D713}
It is expensive though, but looks good :thumb:
That site also has the relocation plates, most are $100+ :dunno:

yeah....I'm not paying $60 for license plate lights.....
You can also use strobe-type lights made for cars (not sure how they are called) - the white, blue, and red small directional lights that ricers use to light up the dashboard of their cars  They are very small, relatively cheap and look not so bad.
thats fugly IMO

I like how that site says "NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ELSE", yeah ok i believe that.
just to keep you guys updated, i e-mailed the pics the guy needed earlier today. hopefully i will hear from him in the next couple of days. i will keep you all updated on the progress. :thumb:
k, good
ok here is the udate, well actually i'll just cut and paste so you guys know what i know.
Hello steve,
My name is cory and i am part owner of customz. I got your e-mail from justin and you
wanted to know if we can make our part for your bike. Yes we can. It will be slightly custom
from the others that we are currently making but should not be a problem. Although i will need
one measurement from you. For easiest installation it will go ont he chain side of the bike. Unless youwanted it on the brake side you would have to remove the tire shaft then place it on the opposite side the replace the shaft. You can decide which you want to do that way but just let me know before you order because the two different sides will be different plate. Anyway the measurement i need from you on the chain side is from the Center of axle nut to the back the the chain tensioner bolt. I know it sticks out like about 2 inches so i need the measurement to the back of it so when i make the plates they have enough clearance. If you order up to 5 plates they are $65. If you order more than 10 they are $50 and if you places orders for more than 15 plates all will be $45 plus all plates in the future after that. I hope this helps you and let me know if you are still interested.
Cory
So let me know what you guys want to do. I'm getting one regardless. As far as the light concern that was posted earlier, i found some lights at pep boys. they are led's that you can bolt anywhere and angle them however you choose. they are small so no big ugly messes and pretty damn cheap. i'm pretty sure they were less than $10, but i will check it out tomorrow to be sure. :thumb:
I want one. Is there holes on the plate to bolt in the licence?
i would think so, but if not it's not hard to drill a couple.
Well i want one. lol
So whats going on with these?
i am having one made as we speak. it should be shipped out to me by monday. i will install it right away and take pics, then i'll post them here for you guys. i would update the title on this thread so everyone knows, but i have no clue how to do it. :dunno:
Alright, be sure to keep us posted with pics, i wanna see it.
Can you just edit your 1st post?
hey,
just wanted to know if u got the relocation bracket installed yet? how hard was install? and where did u go with the wiring? up the swingarm?
thnx
matt
didn't get it yet. being made now, will be shipped out monday. as soon as i get it done i'll post pics as well as pics of the install itself.
Sorry to be so annoying, but.. uh...any news
uhh... how would that work for a gs w/ the exhaust there? or do you mount it on the chain side?
Mount it on the chain side.
BUMP!
i'm still waiting on delivery. it was sent out tuesday afternoon so it should be here any day now. then i'll finally post pics. :thumb:
o.k. Cool. How much did you pay for it.
i paid $60 but that's just because i wanted mine asap plus i figured i'd be the lab rat on this one. buy , install it, snap some pics, and see if eveyone still interested. if bought in quantity the price would drop a bit.
:thumb:
ok guys i finally got it and i think it looks pretty damn good. it took a whole 10 min to install. i have pics but i have no way of posting them here. anyone no of a image hosting site so i can get the pics up and running so you can check it out. :thumb:
pm sent

You want these ... I'll make a lot for $10 each ... they'd be stainless 14 guage ... I didn't even look at this thread till now ... else I'd have posted sooner ... BTW they fit on the axle bolt ... I just dont like that whole idea ... I'll try and see if there is a better place ... How do you see your adjuster marks ...
Cool.
Srinath.
that is too cool
id be interested in one srinath
How much would you charge me to do the license plate wrinkle effet?
Hey stevemac12073,
You think you could take a picture from the rear end? like so you could see the WHOLE rear of the bike? And i do like it alot. I want to buy one right now. Not wait. lol. So srinath, if you would make them, i want it before the end of april. lol.
I might be interested Srinath. It should go on the exhaust side so its not so visable and blends in with the bike more, in my opinion anyhow.
I'd buy a Srinath one for $10.
Then that undertail would look sweet.
"Shocks. . . Pegs. . . Lucky."
To keep your license plate from wrinkling like that, one way to give it a nice smooth bend is to duct tape one side down on a one gallon paint or coffee can and roll it on the carpet. I tried it with an old plate and it worked just like I though it would. :thumb:
Whoever gets me one the fastest gets my money!
Quote from: Jake DI'd buy a Srinath one for $10.

I'd buy one also...
I'll make one tommorow ... I'd prefer flat and right side up, though flat and vertical is also OK ... that curve and that extra length wont work ... I am going to use some stainless 14 guage ... extra length will vibrate like hell ... They had to have it bent and welded and crap because of that ... I'll show it in a day or 2... Then decide. As usual its going to be fitted and fabbed on a GS ... so will fit ... but of course I have no sense or what looks nice and what doesn't so You decide.
Cool.
Srinath.
scratch me off the list, my friend is a cop and he said a sideways tag would get my sorry ass pulled over
You didn't know that ... ??? OK ... Yea Illegal as heck ... they wanna be able to see the tag no matter what ... if they're behind you and those jesse james bikes with fat ass tires and a tag that wont be seen if you're off to the other side cos its obscured by the tire ... yup ... definite ticket ... I got one for a dirty licence plate cover last year ...
Cool.
Srinath.
even if they could see it i think id get a ticket cause its hard to read sideways so lets say i were to flee a cop they wouldnt easily be able to read my tag in such a short amount of time, perhaps that is their reasoning
Vertical is ok as long as it's on the rear fender and not obscured, like in the case of dual-sport/enduros where if you place it horizontially it could get ripped off easily.
From Florida SS 316.605
Every vehicle, at all times while driven, stopped, or parked upon any highways, roads, or streets of this state, shall be licensed in the name of the owner thereof in accordance with the laws of this state unless such vehicle is not required by the laws of this state to be licensed in this state and shall, except as otherwise provided in s. 320.0706 for front-end registration license plates on truck tractors, display the license plate or both of the license plates assigned to it by the state, one on the rear and, if two, the other on the front of the vehicle, each to be securely fastened to the vehicle outside the main body of the vehicle in such manner as to prevent the plates from swinging, with all letters, numerals, printing, writing, and other identification marks upon the plates clear and distinct and free from defacement, mutilation, grease, and other obscuring matter, so that they will be plainly visible and legible at all times 100 feet from the rear or front.
nothing about sideways, curved/bent round, might be considered Obscured
OK one more issue ...
That long extension and bent plate holder ... they have made it far too thick ... has to be due to length ... and the length will also make it bend into the wheel more easily ... in case you crash ... and it might tear up the wheel ... You really want thin and small and not sticking out into the wheel part ... I would like to put it on the muffler side ... cos its inherently protected by the muffler ... I also swapped my axle bolt ... nut goes under the muffler now on my bikes ... cos if you crash and that gets ground up ... you'll never get it off ... this way the muffler will save it a bit ... and dont think i haven't used it as such either ...
As for illegal issues ... The codes were written many many years ago ... long before some chowder head decided licence plates at to be fitted near the wheel cos otherwise it ruins the clean looks of the back end ... I think it even looks uglier on the side ... JUST IMHO ... so they have either passed amendments or are doing so in most states ... you might get a defective equipment ticket ... though I got a obscuring plate ticket ...
Cool.
Srinath.
Ok, I took a pic so maybe Srinath could take a look and tell me if this would work... Could I relocate my plate using the bolt that comes out of the back of the swingarm, under the exhaust, and screw the plate directly onto the back of the swingarm with the nut??
Srinath, you said tomorrow, and tomorrow is today hahaha. Whats the progress?
i would not mount it with that one bolt even if you could. you run the risk of it slipping and spinning down into rotating parts. could be ugly.
I made one that bolts in where the rear brake bolts go through the arm. I had to mount the tag vertically and I bent it so that it flowed with the rear brake. I had to put a spacer on the aftermarket exhaust to keep it from hitting but it looks so much better than the stock location.
Since you brought this thread back from the dead, can you post some pics? It sounds like a nice mod, so now I'm curious! :)
ITS ALIVE ! Muhahahahhahahaha !!!!!1111
No thanks, it's just another reason to be stopped by the po po in florida ;)
Yeah,
In the state of Florida it is Illegal! It must be placed under the tail light and properly lit and in plain view. In the O-town area they love stopping the sport bike crowd yet the hogs and choppers get away with it! I hate profiling!
Mary S.
Yeah the Hogs are paying them off in weed and feed........ :icon_mrgreen:
