hehe, i sooooooo want one of those
its just like Formula SAE except without the body panels and depending on the team, less engineering work.

I think that the Madison team uses a kawasaki 600cc engine, but they have to use a restrictor plate due to competition rules. It's too bad that there are a lot of squidly [insert insult here] on the team, or I might join.
We otta make our own racin' series an' call it Formula 500. Get Dgyver and Srinath and some others to come up with a 50 horse motor and put 'em in a light chassis and body an' we'll have a ball. I know Nascar Speed Park can be a lot of fun. Love the bike and the forum.

hmmmm, take a tc88b (hd), a baker 6 speed, and a kart frame :)
A TC88 taken out to 150...scary. Was reading about one that puts out over 150 ft-lb of torque and 175 hp. I guess that would make a go-cart run...any damn where you wanted it to. Love the Baby scooter and the GStwin forum.

if you ever get a chance to drive a Kart DO IT! Here is some info http://www.formulakart.com/fk_school.html
It's a BLAST!
Those Formula SAE guys do have some fun. ODU out by me has a team. Their kart has a gixxer 600 motor - restricted intake though due to league rules. It's pretty tough though.
I was running a scale stock car a few years ago that was powered by a Honda GX390 motor (about 18 hp). I had a spare GS motor that I had measured up to mount...but I ended up selling the car before i got around to doing it. Would have been a fun autocross machine!!
Here's the ODU car: More at my site or www.odumotorsports.com

My school, NIU, used an r6 engine i believe. Thing was smokin fast! It also had a very interesting clutch design that our EE's developed as well.
I was trying to figure out what engine our FSAE team uses at MTU, but their webpage is down. I do know that our Clean Snowmobile team (http://www.me.mtu.edu/%7Ecsc/home.htm)uses motorcycle engines. Last year they used a CBR 600 motor, and this year they moved up to a CBR 954 motor. They compete next week. (http://www.admin.mtu.edu/urel/snowmobile/)
Last year the MTU team would have won, except the gas tank that a local shop welded sprung a leak and they couldn't compete in the endurance testing. Just last week the sled sheared a drive shaft, but they got a new design made within a day. This whole week(our spring break) they are doing final testing. (I hear a lot about it because my roomate is on the engine team)
It would be interesting to know that kart's top speed.
A guy I was talking to told me he used to drive his on the street and outran cops on a regular occasion. Apparently they are easy to lose on the turns and you can evade them by zig zagging until they finally just give up.
THREAD RESURECTION
This cart is awesome!
Our university's SAE club makes Formula Karts powered by Honda CBR600F4i engines. They are bad ass.
They should take that thing on Pinks. :icon_mrgreen:
What about street legal cars like these... I know of the (Trex) ... are there others? I would love to make a street legal w/ an R1 or Busa :thumb:
Ok.. WOW.. I did some searching and found A ton!..
My new project will be one of these

there was / is a video floating around of a gixxer kart like thing with a blackbird engine in it. in the vid the guy takes it to some kind of time trial (think narrow road in england countryside, one at a time, road rally). there is a ridealong cam, it's pretty intense. the file i have of it is titled "XX-Kart_256kb" it's a 25.8 meg 11 odd min file. shows hime building it too. see if sombody can find it?
