hey all,
I am putting clip ons on my bike(2004 GS500F), i bought some aftermarket lockhart phillips bar ends weights for them. But they are tiny compared to the stock bar end weights, probably a 1/3 the weight.
So my question....is there more or less vibration with clip on handlebars compared to the stock handlebars? will these smaller bar end weights be sufficient? I can steal the rubber bushing and nut from the aftermarket ones and use them with the stock weight and bolt if i have to, just need to add a spacer.
Opinions?
there's this thing called a snake bar...
basically you put it inside you handle bar to add weights and absorb the vibration...
well i've already got the bar end weights...so its just a question of which to use...the heavy stock ones or the smaller aftermarket ones.
Does anyone else with clipons have a comparson for me....did you notice more or less vibration with them??
Vibrations ... less ... much less ... the standard GS bars are the worst ...
Cool.

this sounds stupid but , what are clip on bars? i am very interested
You could also fill your clip-on bars with weight and use the new barends. If I have a problem with mine vibing or shaking I plan to do fill my bars with some sort of material.
fill them with sand.

We got something made up or bought from Vortex or some such ... that lets you put bars that clamp on the fork legs ... Lower and aggressive position and good adjustability are the main advantages ...
Cool.

hmmm....think i 'll throw the stock ones on it for now....the aftermarket ones i dont think are gonna cut it, plus the stock are the same diameter as the grips...looks a little more consistent too.
Filling it with sand is definitely out....major humidity here...i was thinkin of filling it with rubber pellets if i can find some? any ideas where someone could find something like that? fishing supplies maybe....?
fill your bars with cager hood ornaments, they will be less distracted this way. We all know they like bright shiny things a little too much :P
you can also fill the bars in with metal BBs...which i plan to do...eventually...

hey airbrush, what clip-ons do you have on your GS500f? and may i ask where you got them as well? (i live in ontario as well) they dont hit the fairings or the gas tank right? can you post some pics of your bike after (from the top view preferably) im considering buying a gs500f myself but i just cant stand how the dirt-bike bars look on that bike thanks in advance
Yup...i hated the look of the stock bars too. I got mine off of ebay..steal of a deal...for 30 bucks. They said they were from an old gs550, but i dont think those came stock with those, someone had already modified em, ground down some areas on the bottoms of the clip ons.
As far as it not hitting the tank or fairing, that shouldnt be a problem, other people have put clipons on a F.
I have vortex clipons on my F. I used to wear motox gloves and felt lots of vibration after i put them on. I switched to leather gloves and it reduced a lot of virbration. Ease up on the gorilla grip at high way speeds, no need to grab it so tightly.
