i have a question for anybody who might know the answer... my carbs drip fuel off of the bottom of the left carb, and i can't figure out why. Is it the petcock in the fuel tank? is it the switch valve on the left side of the bike? or is it the carbs themselves. fuel just drips off the left carb, so i keep a rag under it. the leakage has emptied an entire tank of fuel before, but it did take about 2-3 weeks of just sitting there dripping. so if anyone has or is experiencing the same problem i am, or know what i should do to correct this problem, please let me know.

Is it a GS500? If so, then when you shut the bike off are you placing the pet-chicken in the run position? If not, you should; if the pet-chicken is in the prime position the fuel will continue to run to the carbs and if you have a leaky needle and seat in the carb it will overflow. Love the GS500 and this forum.

I doubt if you give enough information to get a useful reply. Check the float bowl drain screw. Otherwise put some powder around the carb to try to find out where is the leak coming from.

Timely thread. I rejetted the carbs recently, and now notice a leak coming from the right (throttle side) carb. I guess it's time to take 'em out and check to see if everything's nice and tight? :dunno:

Well. If all the screws/bolts physically holding the carbs together are tight, there aren't too many other ways for them to be leaking like that. The float bowl drain screws, like Ed89 said. If your floats are just ridiculously high it might cause a leak like that, though mine always went through the air filter... that's all I can think of.
Maybe they are leaking at the tank mounted pet chicken and running down the tubes and dripping down the carbs?? :dunno:

It is going to be either the bowl drain screw is not tight (or maybe damaged) or the float needle(s) are worn and sealing incorrectly. The float needle(s) will leak gas through the inlet side of the carb and possibly into the motor. If parked for very long, it is best to turn the petcock to OFF.
also check your bowl gaskets. Mine leaked like that until I changed them out for better ones

You must be talking about the tank-mounted petcock. For the frame-mounted one, turn to ON.

What ... this actually doesn't make sense ... One floats stays open ... that is a sticking float needle ... barely stays open ... is OK more like sealed shut so float wont fill up and hence wont leak... Synch is not for floats ... getting the 2 floats set equal ... is just that ... setting them equal ... synch is for butterflies ... setting the 2 exactly the same ... either with vacuum or eyeball ... and will never result in a leak even if waaaay off ...
