So, my lock is sticky. It always has been. Sometimes I sit there and jiggle the key around for a couple minutes trying to find the "sweet spot" so the stupid thing will turn... my new key isn't any better either.
I assume there's just goop and grime down in there from years of sitting around with the key out, what do I clean it with? I'm kind of afraid to just go pouring something down the only way to turn on the bike...
So yeah, any suggestions? I feel like a dummy at school or when I'm in a hurry fiddling w/ my silly key...

are you using the original key?
I picked up my GS last fall, it had been parked for 2 yrs.
The lock was very tricky to work like yours. I tried several things and was going to get a new one. The last thing I tried was gooping a bunch of white lithium grease on the key and inserting it. I worked the grease in and out of the hole ( :? ) and lubed it real good.
It has worked flawlessly since then. :dunno: I worry that the grease will attract grit and stuff but it is working so far.
Lithium grease eh... I'll have to try that. I was using the original key, but paranoia of losing it made me get a copy made and I've been using that. They work equally as well (bad) so I figure same difference.
thanks for the suggestion..

Liquid Wrench. Spray it all around the barrel of the lock (as well as inside, and on the key, insert, extract, insert, extract...), work the barrel turning it on and off, on and off.
