I know with cars that is a normal deal but, not sure when it comes to bikes.

Anyone else?

Quote from: atek3Did I install the pad improperly?  Is this wear pattern normal til it breaks in?
I don't have experience with the pre-'96 caliper, but I would be surprised if you can install the pads slightly improperly.

Is the wear pattern nice and even around the rotor?  (No "skips" or anything that would indicate an off-of-vertical rotor?)  If so, I think you're good to go.  Put on some more miles and keep an eye on things.

the wear pattern is even around the disk, but it isn't the same as the wear pattern on the other side of the disk.

Understood.  If the pre-'96 pads are the same width on both sides of the rotor, then I would expect the smaller contact patch to grow over time until they are the same width.

So I checked again this morning and the contact patch on both sides is the same...so far so good.  Today I spent a hard afternoon in the twisties going up and down hills... now my front brake makes a squeal.  My rear brake squeals and it sounds like a shriek.  The front brake sounds like kind of a high pitched warble...  I still get braking force though... is it just a squeal or something serious like a warped rotor (which after 300 miles I'd be really PO'd about).
