Title: Chin fairing-any function or just form?
Post by: William M on March 07, 2005, 03:20:19 PM
Lame question, but....

Any function to chin fairings (belly pans) or is it just a cosmetic? Any negative to their use (ie cooling, noise...)?

Thanks.

I think it just makes it look a little meaner. Don't recall anyone saying it caused any functional problems although I think that question has been asked before. Love the G and the forum.

I'd like one to keep the area right above the oil filter cover clean when I do my rain rides; pine needles really get wedged up there well, well enough that I have to use an old dental pick to get 'em out. My only apprehension is interrupting the airflow along the oilpan belly fins, this is an air-cooled bike. (I know I could use the lower fairing during the winter and take it off for the summer).
