Title: weekend didnt go as planned....
Post by: pixelmonkey on March 08, 2005, 09:04:20 AM
in oklahoma i've been riding with a great group of people all a part of the  speed tribe (http://www.speed-tribe.com)

the outings have been great, and almost 1/2 of the riders are above the age of 30, so it's not just a bunch of kids / first timers on sport bikes. everyone and i mean EVERYONE is geared for the ride! Helmet / riding jacket / boots / gloves and several in riding pants.

this last weekend i invited a friend with a new ducati 749 from here at OSU. he's been riding for several years and had a shadow before getting his ducati this last december. *sweet bike, all black and less then 1000 miles. nipples still on the tires!*

we were maybe 70 miles into our way when a few members realized they should have filled their gas tanks at the last stop! so a shot back track of 8 miles to a gas station was needed.

several of the 90 deg turns on the way were posted at 40mph, and were easily cornered by the faster riders above 60. we were staying in a large pack of around 20 riders so traffic would be more willing to yield. on one of the last turns a white chevy with a flat bed cut the corner in front of several riders and my friend danny on his ducati went down. the truck didnt stop, slow or even hit its breaks as it continued down the rutted dirt road.

Danny will be fine, just a few bruises and road rash on his left knee and leg. the bike however will likely be totaled. should hear about its outcome later this week.

THANK GOD FOR PROTECTIVE GEAR!!! he was wearing blue jeans which is the only reason he has any noticable road rash. his JR coat held up well as did his HJC helmet *which he will be signing / dating / and hanging on the wall*

here are photos of the bike before and after... and a crude drawing of the accident site (http://photos.roadsideoklahoma.com/thumbnails.php?album=2)

PLEASE REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR GEAR!!!

you never know when *hit is going to happen!

Anyone follow the truck?  You can't cause an accident and run either...

Does the white Chevy flatbed look anything like the one in the pic that the bike is laying on, or is that a Toyota?  You think that someone from that group would have been able to catch up with it.   :dunno:

Hey pixelmonkey....do you know Phoenix (aka Lauren)? She used to live out there and used to ride with speed tribe but has moved back here several months ago. I installed frame sliders on her black 2002 F4i. We haven't had a chance to ride together yet.

Wow. :o That's absolutely terrible. In my book, that Ducati is one of the most beautiful bikes out there.

ive chased down a vehicle on a Dirt road on my maxim 650, justto get tag number. scratches on my paint aint nothing compared to someone getting away with causing a wreck.

Was the flatbed driver intentionally trying to get away?  Even more of a reason to pursue him at all costs... proly could have even gotten some good speed driving in the field alongside the dirt road.  Coulda, shoulda, woulda.  Well, we all know what to do now when riding in a pack and a vehicle causes an accident; send one person after them immediately, right?  :thumb:

yep! shes still active on the forum. i've never met her in person though.

i'm thinking she will be back in OKC for a farewell party for a member going into basic later this month. *i'll be sure to say hi to her then

for the rest....
i didnt know there was even a truck until 5 minutes after the accident. the first couple of riders in line behind danny were more concerned with his safety, and NONE of the bikes present would have safely made it verry far down that road! dirt road... raining over the last week so it was mostly ruts. *doesnt work well with a street bike*

Danny will be back to riding soon, havent heard if the bike is totaled or not *likely is* and no tickets were written, the @$$hole of a state patrol officer didnt believe there was even a truck so there will be no way in hell anything will ever be filed against that driver... unless of course hell freezes over!

everyone in the group could raise a little hell  with the local paper, ahem "mentioning the cops name, and what happened, and the cops attitude  :dunno: etc. etc. etc. nobody likes negative press, can also describe truck in a semi-hostile way ;)

that sucks to hear about the wreck, glad he is ok though.  Also, supersports can run fast on dirt.  85 on a busa in the rocks on the james dalton.  Supersports are underestimated, they actually arent bad off road.  But again, glad to hear he is ok.
