Title: blowing fuses
Post by: JohNLA on March 08, 2005, 10:03:07 PM
My bike failed to start yesterday morning. I had just made the trip from USC to Marina DelRay(12miles) and stopped for gas across the street from my work. I went to leave the gas station but none of the electrics would come on.

I checked the battery and the acid levels looked correct but I topped it off anyways and started poking at the ground wire and other wires but nothing got it working. I then checked the fuses and one did look spent. The cover indicated that it was the main fuse and should have been 20A but it was 10A.

The gas station didnt sell fuses so I went back and switched another fuse (one used by the headlight) for the spent one and it fired up.

I drove it to work and picked up a pack of 20A fuses during lunch to set things right and drove home happy.

This mornings commute was nice as well but when I went to leave tonight the electrics came on for a second and then just shut off. Some brief poking before I again replaced the same 1 day old fuse and it started fine. This time the fuse did not look fried and appears intact.

So before I run out of fuses I need to figure out whats causing the short. Any thoughts or prayers?

BTW, the bike is not a GS its an 83 Kawi GPZ 550 and the tachometer  does not work which is suppose to work with the coils. If that means anything :dunno:

You have probably already checked the wiring connections at the fuse holder/box. It seems that every time you fiddle with it, it solves the problem? :dunno:
