No one has a 12 volt 1.7 watt J4 bulb, nor can they seem to be able to order one. I just put a tach bulb in it instead.. Will this cause problems?
at first I thought you meant your headlight bulb, but you're talking about the indicator bulb right?
for all those small bulbs I just use your normal 194 bulbs, never had a problem
speaking of headlight bulbs, my low beam reacently burnt out anyone know what to look for when getting a replacement?

go silverstar and you wont go back, most autoparts stores i.e (Checker Shucks Kragen,AutoZone, heck even Wal-Mart) stock these, you want a 9003 bulb it is the same as H4(?) bulb, i cant rember one the H series number is but I know that it is 9003 for the standard series. The part number for the silverstars is 9003ST.
Dang things are much better than stock and a lot whiter.
yes, 9003 is an H4 bulb. All the bulbs i bought were listed as H4, not once 9003.
how many of these do we need?
just 1?
yeah if you buy a 9003 bulb and actually look it closely it never says 9003 anywhere on it, it say H4, that i figured out they are the same
9003 and H4 are slightly different, according a lady I emailed a Sylvania:
QuoteThe parts H4 and 9003 are in the same bulb family, they are different parts. Part H4 is generally used for motorcycles; while 9003 is used in cars. Part H4 is built with a sturdier filament to better withstand the vibration. The physical difference between the 2 bulbs is 9003 has a greater luminance and is made with a tighter tolerance than the H4. Also the lens and reflectors in the vehicles using the 9003 are designed specifically around the 9003, no the H4 and visa-versa.

I would still say the bulbs are interchangeable though, her statement may be a bunch of marketing :bs:
ps. I recently bought an H4 Silverstar bulb off of ebay for about $8 + $5 shipping vs. about $20 + tax at the local store. It did take some patience to get that price though.
hmm....it seems pretty fishy...cuz I work at a local parts store here on the weakends. I usually handle most of the returns, and some one once returned a 9003 bulb, and stamped right on the base where the three notches are put in read Sylvania Osram(sp?) H4 followed by a few other numbers, and I believe if you look in a sylvania application book, they list the bikes bulbs and next to our bike it says H4(9003) if I remember correctly, I will double check this weekend.
I have also looked at both bulbs when I installed mine just ot make sure and they are identical.
do i need one or 2?...
stock-1 bulb will do the trick
modded-as many as you want
That lady is dumb i think. I drive a SVT focus and it takes an H4 bulb according to the manual. I already replaced the bulbs in there. She saying ford puts in a motorcycle bulb in there? lol. No dissing fords here, my car is nice.
So again instead of doing home work
the technical part number for a 9003 bulb is
HB2-12V60W55W-P43T-ECE
and the technical part number for the H-4 bulb is
HB2-12V60W55W-P43T-ECE
both of these are thanks to donsbulbs.com
so they are indeed the same
