After looking over some material on this website I just realized one thing, the vacuum line running from the left carb to the petcock is missing on my bike. That probably explains why it runs better in "prime" than "on". It will probably be Saturday before I get to fix it as long as the weather holds out. But I'm just curious as to what kind of problem this is.
My bike runs pretty good at higher revs but it surges and stalls sometimes at lower rpm(even on prime). I haven't got the idle adjustment screw in yet but it should be here next week. I used the throttle cable adjustment to try to get some idle but I'm sure it's way off and may not be enough after it warms up. By the vacuum line being off is this actually drawing extra air into the carb leaning the engine out? I couldn't see if the vacuum port on the carb was plugged but I doubt it. And I also found a line sitting beside the breather tube line that wasn't connected so I thought maybe that was the carb vacuum line.
Sorry for rambling but I'm just trying to figure out what it's going to take to get my bike in really good running shape. Thanks.

ok, basically at the carb yes it is leaning it out and not having a vac line at the petcock means that it is always closed unless it is in prime.
And you're sucking air in the vacuum line in the carb ... good way to overheat and seize up that 1 cyl ... cos the other cyl will keep it running till it dies ... :x ...
Cool.

That's what really confuses me. If the petcock is shut off how could it run for a few minutes before it starts to lose power and stall. But then again there is probably enough fuel in the line and floats to keep it going. As soon as I switch it to prime it picks back up so it is definitely starved of fuel.
I'll definitely have to fix that before I ride it any more Srinath. The last thing I need is a seized engine.
