I talked to the autobody guys down the street from my work and they offered
to paint the bike for around $300. That includes stripping down everything and all the prep work. That sounds reasonable to me. The owner also said that he was buying a dead moped and I offered to help get her started...said it only had 800 miles on it so I'm figuring it's probably something simple(electric or fuel). Maybe he'll knock some off the price if I get it started.
He let me borrow the sample book with paint chips of every automobile manufactured for the past ten years.
I will also be getting the frame painted in the near future and havn't decided on that either(i.e. silver or black). So, any suggestions of color combinations for frame/body?
ya know....I just love the look of the 05 SV's in blue'n'black.....JMO...I think a GS decked out like that would look sweet.....

Yea partial to the family of blues myself, that 91 like mine, the 96 or 97 deeper blue, the less common 2000 blue, and of course the 01-02 blues ... IMHO ... they ruined the 04 blue by painitng the tail white ... while the yellow is yellow all over ... WTF ...
Also like the black ... 89 and 90 were gorgeous in decal and base color ... as was the later ones with the squiggly decals ... Of course my latest bright Idea was to hit the frame in super shiny red and do the tank and body work in matte black so it be a negative bike ... so as ficke as the cow in a cat 5 tornado ...
Cool.
Srinath,
straight black and gun metal. make it look mean!
Well whatever color engine you have I would do the opposite to the frame, to keep it broken up and not let something overdominate, silver engine=black frame and vise versa. I like Blue and silver for the plastics. Orange and white is cool looking combo, antibody has one with that scheme. Orange and black, Red and black, and maybe Yellow and blue. Those would be some schemes that I myself would consider. If I ever get a chance and learn how, I want to do something like this to my bike.

That was done by Mike Lavallee, and he is pretty much the man as far as true fire airbrushing, I wouldnt be able to do nothing near that good but I would like to try someday. I would use a different color scheme, black and blue, and then blend in the Suzuki logos so they flowed as if part of the fire, kind of like that skull does.
Sorry got kind of carried away. :dunno:
I have been thinking about painting my bike since I have lost a bunch of paint on my tank trying to get the dents out, but I think I'm going to wait until next winter.
Silver tank and plastics, black frame are the way that I would go but I have little artistic sense. A good friend of mine is a painter (canvas painter) so I might ask her for some suggestions if I ever end up doing it.
Thanks for the suggestions.
That fire looks mean, eh? That's ranks up there with the best fire I've ever seen, if not the best. Painstaking I'm sure.
Sprint, great tip for the contrast of engine v.s. frame. Reminds me of that orange & black bike that was just on Ebay. Lots of black and it looks cool, just feels like it was a bit too dark around the engine area. I have the black engine as well. Seems like alot of work to strip the engine, too. Tedious as hell and it would probably require a total rebuild since the stripper would kill all the gaskets. I wonder if I could just polish the sprocket cover, etc. to break it up a bit. Might look tacky. I kind of hate chrome. I like the anodized look.
I think tomorrow I'll whip out the powdercoating samples and match them up with the paint chips and see if anything looks good. I'm not very good when it comes to thinking up creative paint schemes but I know what looks good when I see it... like Antibody's bike for instance...I feel like it would take 10 different stabs to get a paintjob that looks as cool as that. Know what I mean?
Cheers
I prefer silver/black, its the scheme im using on my CBR.
I like the midnight charcoal color ford and chevy are using on their trucks over the last few years, but its a little bit of a pain to keep clean
I'm gonna suggest something different, something that I would like to see on a GS someday. I might try it, but my bike doesn't need paint. I want to see brittish racing green or a classic green color, like this:

My dad had a 1967 Corvette convertible in that color similar to the photo. I miss that car :( Also he had a 1971 Honda CB450 that was about that color. While he was restoring it and having it repainted he asked me what color to paint it and I said stay with the green. He was happy I made him do that. I've think a GS could look good in that color :dunno:

Paint the bike green and the wheels yellow. That is the only color to paint a tractor.
Yea my silver frame with black engine and wheels looks really good. It keeps it broken up, my dad was all negative about getting my wheels done in black but then he saw them on the bike and couldnt stop with how good they looked. Yea that fire is pretty cool, you should see some of his other things he has done. Heck heres a link to more of that bike, the second pic down is really sweet I think, the way the fire flows into her hair, impressive.
