Title: Bought a house today :)
Post by: vtlion on March 12, 2005, 09:03:31 AM
Well, actually... its a townhouse, and we just put a contract on it.  Closing late this spring.  The build should be done some time in April.  I'm totally excited.

I managed to negotiate the exclusive rights to the garage and the basement to rule over as my sovereign domain...  :)

In exchange, of course, the girlie gets unchallenged power over the rest of the house

Put a home theater with a projector in the basement...  You won't be sorry.  Go here www.avsforum.com for some info.

Best thing I EVER did.  But I love movies...

I would love nothing more than to have a theatre in the basement, but I feel like I would have to finish the basement first, which I can't afford  :(

Instead, I'm gonna paint the basement floor with that garage-floor stuff, put mats down and put in a gym

The garage is too small...  It's always too small...  :P   Just thought I'd warn you!

Nice looking place.  Enjoy!  :)

Read the rules and regulations very very carefully, anything you dont like have them write and give you an exception ... they will if you threaten to not close ... and Mine has some idiotic rules about not parking bikes in the driveway ... but the books was so poorly worded and very ambiguous ... it was interpretable either way ... and they were trying to force me to comply with one interpretation ... and after i pointed out the other option ... they tried to change it ... I am attempting to shut that door as we speak ... but read it ... and you'll see that eventually they dont read it and try to enforce something else ... and that makes them open to getting slapped with lawsuits ... Fun ...
Cool.
Srinath.
PS: Congrads ...

yeah, the covenants aren't too bad with this community.  It is a mixed community of houses and townhouses.  Driveway parking is allowed, pet restrictions are lenient, and we otherwise don't have alot of other needs/wants.

I started my homesearch looking for property in the hills with a little bit of land and no restrictive governing body like a Borogh or HOA.  There were 2 problems: 1. nice houses and land are just too expensive for us, even out in the county and 2. reselling anything rural isn't a slam-dunk, especially out here in the boonies of PA.  we're only gonna be here until my GF finishes her PhD in 4 years, then we wanna flip the place and make some $$$, so we went for a smaller place closer to town for the appreciation/resale potential.

weaselnose, I don't remember the name of the contractor off the top of my head, but yes, the build quality is excellent.  That is part of what sold me on bailing on the single family home idea.  Single family homes of the same quality are waaaay out of our price range  ;)

I hope you are both very happy in it. It's never too early to buy a house. it's one of those classic things you can't afford but can't afford to miss.
