It was a fun wrenching weekend!
I replaced the clamp on my upper triple with the one I got from Dgyver to replace my ignition. I then had to re-mount my headlight and put the front end back together. Once I got everything back together, I realized that I should have put on my F-16 windshield while I had the headlight apart anyway. Oh well, so I take the headlight back off and install the wind screen.
I throw the battery back in so I can test the new ignition. Success!! Everything lights up and the bike turns over!
My next step was the carbs. I carefully follow the instructions and get the carbs out. Oops, I forgot the step of draining the gas out of the carbs, so I have gas all over my pants. I rejet and rebuild both carbs without any more issues. Well, except that I don't have any #4 washers and Home Depot didn't have any, so I can't shim the needles. I'll do that as soon as I find them.
Now lets tackle the valves. Everything went smoothly, 3 of the 4 were in spec although narrowly. I'll probably be shimming them next time. The 4th is where I found the hitch. Tell me if this sounds familiar...
"OK, now move the tool a little more, almost enough, a little more....CLANK!! shaZam!!!"
Repeat this many times.
I finally got it out and replaced it with one from the kit.
Unfortunately I ran out of time and have not gotten the tank back on. I'll do that tonight.

I drained and replaced the oil with 15W40 MOBIL DELVAC, that everyone has been raving about... she sounds mean as hell and seems to run happier now for some reason. :thumb:
I still have to switch the oil and neutral lights...damn previous owner.
I just replaced the instrument buckets, but they'll need a little more work to bring them up to par. One of the lugs on the back of the speedo was broke but I think I've figured a way to fix that. I also hooked up the carb vacuum line to the petcock. This thing now runs smooth compared with what it did run like. I'll try to get the cables adjusted and routed correctly this weekend. Everytime I turn the bars or compress the suspension either the choke or throttle cable pulls causing the idle to jump up very high. But last weekend was fairly productive for me too. :thumb:

I had the kit before you so all I did was ride!
Did 100+ miles Friday, temp 73, just cruising the county roads...
Did 175+ miles Saturday, temp 79, went to Crestview FL for a sandwich...
And today went twice, about 60 miles each, temp 78 just cruising...
I put some oil in it to top it off.
I love riding...

Consider rerouting your cables so that they don't curve around and between the forks. Just have the cables drape to the outside of the tubes.
