I think I read somewhere that you only save yourself around $5 a tire if you do it yourself, but you'll get a headache doing it. Plus the mechanic can check for balance. I'd say leave this one to the pros, cause putting a tire on right is serious business.

Usually, when a shop plugs a tire, its good for the life of the tire and is perfectly safe. Let the pros handle something that you depend on to live.

I thought I had a leak in my tire last year (I'm talking a pinhole and very ridable). It took me forever to find a place that would repare it.  No one wanted to touch it cause it was a motorcyle tire and there was too much liability at risk. Remember, when you're riding, you've only got two spots of about the size of a quarter touching the ground.  Everyone I talked to, from motorcycle mechanics, to my cousin, a motorcylce safety instructor said to replace the tire.  Lukily for me, after about a week, I stopped loosing air pressure so I think my pinhole sealed itself.  Fixing it, especailly yourself, is something that I'd put a lot of thought into.  If that tire blows while spinning at 100mph....
