i am sorry to say that my plans to buy a motorcycle have been killed...temporarily. i was going to sell my truck and get a bike this spring, but it turns out that i have to keep the truck for another year! i am a student at Pitt now, and next year i will be cummuting. i thought that i was going to transfer to virginia tech for my sophomore year, but they wont take me until my junior year. :( if i was going to live at vt, i could have a bike and use it when i was home. but since im commuting to pitt, i wouldnt be able to go to class in the snow. im just sad that i have to wait another year, i wanted to say that i probably wont be active too often (i wont be thinking about motorcycles too much until next spring) but thanks for the good info, this is really a great forum

Everyone needs a car/truck before a bike. I think a bike makes a GREAT second vehicle but a poor ONLY vehicle. Trust me here... I did it for 3 years. Cold rain is terrible.

Sell truck, get an inexpensive but reliable car + bike :dunno: Justify it by saying that you'll save money in gas with both vs. the truck :thumb:
i thought about getting a car and a bike, but the insurance for both would be more than it is for my truck, and you cant switch insurance anymore. so it looks like i'm stuck

So very true.
Several years ago when my Aunt & Uncle didn't have alot of money, they had one car and one motorcycle. My Uncle had the bike. He had to ride it to work year round, or walk, about 2 miles or so. They live in Pennsylvania. Yea, he saved all Winter for a car :)
How much can you get for your truck? My brother is looking into buying a CBR in Pittsburgh - and he's selling a '93 Toyota Tercel for $1,500. The car runs perfect. Sell the truck, buy the Toy and I'll drive it to Pitt, drop it off to you, you can drop me off at the bike, I'll ride back to VA.
well, my truck is woth a pretty good amount, like over 10K but i should clarify that i love my truck and will only consider selling it for a good bike. i like to have the 4x4 so i know that no weather can stop me this year, until i get a bike next year. also, if i sell my truck and get a car, then sell that to get a bike, i will lose money overall. so, thanks for the offer but im better off in keeping my truck
I hear ya man! Just tryin' to help a couple of dudes out.
So how did it go did you ever get that bike?
