Title: 96' GS500E wont start????
Post by: josh28 on March 15, 2005, 06:44:21 AM
:dunno: In the prossess of tring to get my new ride going, and it wont start. Replaced the starter relay, battery meter shows 9.84 volts (tried to jump with car already and raises to 14.38volts) problem is there's no electical actions from any of the switches on the bars either! Heard of a fuse or a fuse box being on this bike, but where at???? (My manual is in the mail by the way.) I do get the motor to SLOWLY turn over if I jump the starter relay with a screwdriver though with jumping from the car!?
Can anyone help? I'm good at mechanics, but this stumps me!
Title: Battery is dead

Your battery is dead ... and possibly has a short in it. So it sucks the power out of the car and doesn't let much get in the electrics. BTW fuse ... one and only fuse for the bike is in the right side in the starter relay. Your battery should be 13.5 volts under no load. Get a new one and shold work fine.
Cool.

Not so fast.  I agree that a new battery may be in order, but the voltage when attached to the car battery sounds fine.

The bit about the switches not working sounds like an "interlock" problem.  (Your headlight and turn signals work, but the starter won't turn ... right?)  In order for the starter to turn when you push the Start button, you need to have:Blown fuse? Electrical issues (http://gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14519) thread.
