Title: She LIVES!!!
Post by: ConanLloyd on March 17, 2005, 07:59:33 AM
OK, I finally got the fuel tank on and got her started up.  I din't have time to get her completely warmed up last night, so I'll adjust the idle tonight.  I'm seriously looking forward to a ride!

I didn't want to jinx myself by saying anything before she started, but now I can expound on the previous owner's idiocy...

1. When I bought this bike it had a V&H system on it.  When I planned to re-jet I figured I would be coming back down in size because no one would put that pipe on an already lean bike without rejetting.  WRONG!!  I pulled 122.5 and 37.5 out of her carbs!  The really weird thing is that the brass plugs over the mixture screws had been pulled.  That would imply that something was done to the carbs.

2. I spent 30 minutes looking at Kerry's fuel hose routing page because I couldn't beleive that my bike actually ran with things the way they were.  I'm going to borrow Kerry's pic for illustration...

Fuel hose went from 5 to the lower fitting on the carbs instead of 1 for reserve.
Hose went from 3 to 2 instead of the lower carb fitting
Hose went from 4 to 1 instead of 2

3. The fuel tank petcock is placed in backwards causing the shut off screw to be on the left side of the tank instead of the right.  This makes it MUCH harder to get to it to shut it on and off.

Needless to say, everything is in the right place now.

It is amazing what people do to their bikes at times. Glad you got it worked out.
