Title: brake bleed - cummuterguy way

i've decided that all my hoses are still good, but my brake fluid looks nasty (that little window is dark as night), hence i need to change it.

searching through the forum, i found cummuterguy's way (http://gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=126937#126937) of doing it.  i just need to know how much brake fluid i should buy so that i can effectively change out and bleed both front and back brakes.

Its not much.  I think one of the medium bottles will be more than enough.  Not the itty bitty ones, but the next size up for $5.

anyone have a pic of brake fluid that needs to be changed?  i really dont know what it should (or shouldn't) look like...

mine looked like dirty engine oil when I changed it. it should be more transparant.

Ooh!  Use gravity to empty the reservoir, instead of pumping.  I like it.  Thanks, Cummuterguy.

Alex, good clean fluid should look like apple juice, the darker it gets, generally the worse it is.
BUT... since the fluid only darkens once the rubber hoses and seals start to break down (that's the black stuff) or once something starts rusting (reddish stuff), it IS  possible to have too much moisture even when the fluid looks good, that's why its best to just go ahead and change it once a year, even if it looks good.

gotcha...thanks cuz mine still looks like apple juice...but thinking i should probably change it sometime soon...

I flushed mine a few weeks ago. It looked like Ice tea when it came out. I did not use gravity though... i pumped the pedals as levers as per the manual... just be sure not to let the master cylnder empty.

I bought a cool little magnetic bottle that I just stuck to the swingarm and front caliper. It came with hoses and the bottle. Got a autozone for a few bucks....

what a contrast to the new stuff. It was clear.

I barely used 1/2 a bottle.16oz I think.
