Title: engine crash bars question
Post by: AprilIan on March 20, 2005, 08:02:32 AM
Does Suzuki still make the bars?  Does anyone have the part number?

I have looked at the rev-tech and they are spendy to buy new.  I thought I heard that the Suzuki ones were in the $50 range (on the racer page).

I have posted on the classified page also if you have a set to sell.

Thanks

They stopped them in 2002 cos they didn't fit an 04 ...
I made some last year ... they also wont fit 04. I am planning to make some in a few weeks ... if I get orders ... these will fit 04 and be expandable to 3 point if you want that, and take frame sliders. ... Look for that post asking for it, and add to the numbers... I get a good 20 or so and its go time.
Cool.

eBay item 4536094614 (Ends Mar-20-05 12:14:40 PST) - Suzuki GS500E MOTORCYCLE ENGINE GUARD Black

P.S I did not want to keep on biding because so it took me like five auctions to finaly get them for $30 + shipping, but he constantly puts them up for sale. So if this set is sold he should have another, and he does give a Buy Now option, but ists $10 more and i did not want to do it.

Ian I am plaining on instaling them on to a 2002 GS, I just received them 3 days ago, so I have not done it yet, but the package says they fit on all years up until 2004

Zhenya,

that is odd.  the same guy on ebay was selling another set and this is his reply to my question

QuoteHello,
These are made for '96-'00. I do not have engine guards for a '95.

do you still have the packaging that you could scan?

About a year ago I almost bought the suzuki ones in chicago from the suzuki place on Western Ave.  The package did say that it fit 96-02, so I didn't buy them because I have a 95.  I would like to know whether and why they wouldn't fit our bikes.  Every seems to say there is no change from 89-02, but it would help if someone has already tested the case gaurds out to prove it.

I would guess they are NOS (New Old Stock) and were made as model year '00 was in the dealer showrooms.  they would not be able to predict that there was 2 more years of the product run left so only addressed through '00 in the packaging.   Since it is Genuwhine Suzuki stuff, I'd have to say they probably did an ECO (Engineering Change Order) on the bolt diameters, length  or something else in the '96 model year.

Consequently, I wonder if anyone has bought these and attached them to a pre '96 model.

Is 96 when they started the silver colored motors?

The 96 motor is silver. Physically there is no difference in the motor and frame dimensions regarding the mounting points of the case guards. The motor mount bolts are all 10mm.
