Title: Atek3: 1 Fork Seals:0
Post by: atek3 on March 20, 2005, 07:27:24 PM
So I had very leaky fork seals.

I followed the Haynes manual.

Everything was pretty simple if tedious.

To remove the dampner rod bolt I made the tool described in the other thread, with the WRONG HEAD SIZE so the tool was useless.  Oh well, we took a broom, pounded it to fit the star shape, and unscrewed the bolt.

Pouring out the toxic waste sludge was nasty.  Smelled STRONGLY of sulfur, and it was black in one shock and reddish, both were way less than ~350 or whatever ml's.

I checked the legs for straightness, they were fine.

I put it all back together and poured fresh fork oil (belray 15W).

The level I measured with a makeshift dipstick made out of bailing wire.

Put it all back together, now I have much more functional front forks!
