Hello everybody...
first of all I justed wanted to say what's up to everybody here.
I'm parting out my 250ninja...I just got a 94 GS500 and I just love it!
I really love everything about it........hmmmm...except the handlebars. Man those things have to go.
I'm wondering what handlebars does everybody have? Show some pics of your bikes with handlebars.
I definitely love the agressive sporty look. I've been doing research and I know fitting clip-ons under the triple clamp is a pain.
The clubman bars like the suburban machinery 2 and the bikemaster looks pretty good.
Oh and yes I PM'd Srinath about his bars. Does anybody else have his bars on?
Ok that's it, and once again, Hello to everybody here!
Ride safe
Hey There!
Welcome to the board and to the great little GS...
Handlebars? Hmm.. Mine are stock. And since everyone loves pics, here's to you!

The U.S. model GS'es only came with "clip-on's" in 1989. Srinath makes clip-ons for later models, but you'd have to ask him.
I'd either get some clip ons from him, or a dirt-bike handle bar, like a Renthal. . . Depending on the riding position you are looking for.
Which Rental bars work? I'd like to get some.
Try looking at these. . .

Should get you started. I couldn't find the thread I was looking for, but there is a lot out there. Get the specs from these links and talk to a dirt bike parts dealer and I bet you could fit 'em. . .

hehehe....nice.....
Looks like Srinath is going to be my new best friend.
Hey Trey my bike is same color by the way.
Looks like you had to rotate the master cylinder for the front brake for clearance. Is that correct?
well.. mine's grey now for the time being. I'm waiting for the money fairy to come and leave me some money so I can get it painted...

i made a post on this earlier... you will have to use a dremel to cut the notches in the bars for the controls if using renthal or another brand. not a hard thing to do, just takes a couple of minutes.
also, expect some wobble or more viberations since no bar ends will be present!
they are a BIG change!!! wider, and further foward! ALSO, dont expect to "cut them down" to a more narrow width. after installing the controls they are just to the edge where the bar begind to bend down, so cutting them isnt an option!
hope it helps!

What brand/model do you have there Pixelmonkey?

secondgen7: Hey where did you get the tank cover?
Anyone know where to get those funky little rubber pieces that run up the tank?
Heres mine, 89 top tripple on a 93 with Srinath bars. Really changes the feel of the bike, I think there awesome, no vibes either.

Hey Sprint_9 ... any trouble with those ... That powder gets on thick sometimes ...
Cool.
Srinath.

It was on the bike when I bought it. It doesn't have any indication of who made it but I'll look a little closer when I head home later.
Yea I had a heck of a time. I turned out the insides to fit my bar-ends on a lathe and got the bars so hot that it bubbled the powdercoat on the outside edge, so I repainted the bars, which only added to my troubles. I ended up grinding almost all of the powdercoating off the left hand bar and need to do some work on the right side yet to get the master cylinder on there right, oh well Id rather have it too tight then too loose, I love those bars though, pretty thick stuff. :thumb:
Also Im glad you left them long, now after some shortening I have just the right amount I need for a bar-end mirror.
Man ... you told me to leave the ends undrilled ... and you were going to turn your bar ends to fit inside it ... You forget ?? I drill them all before I powdercoat ... Your's were specifically left un drilled cos you asked for it that way ... Yea powder goes on thick ... un predictably thick ... I prefer doing rusted metal ... cos he runs the rust out with his blaster and that takes a few thou off and the powder seems to just put that much back in and leaves it just right ... and the rust makes it just a shade rougher and helps the grips and fittings grab easier ...
Cool.
Srinath.
Yea I remember telling you that and to be honest it was probley one of the more stupider things Ive done in awhile, well stupid things on my bike, I messed things up pretty good with my women awhile back but thats a whole nother story. I guess I learn the hard way. :dunno: :thumb:
Oh well atleast the bike wont kick you in the shins and leave you on the street 20 miles from home on a rainy night ...
Cool.
Srinath.
LOL, yes very good point.

Yes, I had those and they were cool. But when I dropped the bike in the parking lot (darn disc lock  :x ) they bent and the switch block dented the tank. I now have a set of Ventura VH4 that are less than an inch higher that the flat ones but much more comfortable.
My tank on the 90 I had back in 98-99 also had drag bars that dinged up the tank ... They are for some reason made from thin wall metal ... much thinner ... maybe cos its easier to bend thick wall tubing with a tubing bender wihtout tearing ... the bars that have more complex bends like super bike bars ... they use thicker wall ... Drag bars have 2 little simple bends so they use Rolled and welded tubing in paper thin wall ...
Cool.
Srinath.
