Title: What does pinging sound like?
Post by: Dom on March 23, 2005, 09:35:39 AM
My ignition is advanced but havn't noticed the need for higher octane gas.  Do people here with Bobby B's or the V&H advancer use it?  I know that pinging is bad but I don't know what it sounds like but I figured it would sound like a pinging noise... :dunno:

Any thing I should listen for to know if I should switch up?

Richer jetting = slower burning ... so usually no pinging.
Cool.

Pinging will sometimes sound like a rattling sound from the top-end, will even mimic the sound of a loose wrist pin at times. The sound will come and go as you get on and off the throttle, getting louder and more insistent at wot. You should be able to notice it the most in low speed, high load, open throttle applications. Love the little twin and the twin forum.
