Title: Will these parts fit a gs500f?
Post by: mattford11 on March 23, 2005, 11:36:48 PM
Hi all,

Sorry for the n00bn3ss but, I did search first

I was just curious if the following things fit my 2004 GS500F:

GSXR Mirrors - What years work? What mods to the mirrors needed?

GSXR Tail - What years? How simple does this bolt on?

Softer Seat - Something with a little more padding? Are there such things?

Sprockets - What do you recommend for the front? Rear? New Chain Required?

Thanks!

Matt

Ok, ill go ahead and post since I tried the GSXR tail swap on my 01. The subframes are different from 89-00 to 01+ so i guess ive got the experience with your bike. First, the mounting holes on top wont just match upw ith you gast tank bolts (however the GSXR 750 tail has the front holes where they need to be to bolt onto your tank). It looks as though you would be able to tap your subframe to use those bolt mounting locations. As for the rear, the subframe would need to be chopped and re-welded lower to line up the mounting and lower the tail so its not sitting crooked. It is definately worth it to do, but its NOT a direct bolt on, and WILL require some fab and ingenuity on your part. If you do try it, take pictures and let us know how it goes!

Yea, 03 GSXR mirrors bolt right on, that's what I've got. Not sure about the rear fairing, but I'm sure with a little fabbing and modding it will work. I have seen a pic of another GS with the GSXR 750 tail on it, looked great.

For the seat, you can have it recovered with more padding, or look into the Corbin line of seats.

Get a 15T front sprocket, easy to change, about $15.00, no need for a new chain.  1 down in front=about 3 up in the rear. Changing the rear requires a new chain.

her are the GSXR mirrors, about 2" shorter than stock
