This summer I will be adding Joe Rocket Alter Ego pants and a Joe Rocket Reactor jacket to be a bit cooler.
FirstGear mesh jacket and Icon mesh pants. Great for summer. I always wear these because they have soft armor. If its cool I start by adding REI overalls (great for wind and rain), then thermals, then sweater. I've ridden with this combination to about 40 F comfortably. The REI jumpsuit is really what does it. Its amazingly light but blocks out the wind like leather.
Two pairs of gloves: mesh for summer and Olympia lined for cooler temps. I also have a pair of thermal hand liners for colder temps.
Icon full face helmet.
Lighter weight leather hiking boots. Not sure of brand, but th sole is not as thick as most, the tread is also thinner so gives me a bit more sensitivity with the shift/brake.

I finally found a pair of pants I don't hate. They are Harley FXRG black leather overpants. They fit over my jeans, are comfortable, don't look horrible, are made of water resistant leather, easy to get on and off, and have knee and hip armor.
I have a pair of draggin jeans that I hate. I think I'll try to sell them on ebay. They look like old ladies pants, and the kevlar lining is rough on my bum.
I have a FieldSheer Sonic Air jacket and matching pants. they're leather/mesh combo with CE hard armor. They fit me well and FieldSheer's prices are a LOT lower than other popular brands. Lots of features for the $$$ and I haven't noticed any quality problems.

To answer the gear question, though. I wear my teknic thunder pants, lightning jacket, alpinestars boots, and armored leather full length gloves (minus the finger tips due to fitment issues) Year round.
I stay comfy, no overheating issues, but I don't drive in slow traffic very much (maybe 10-15 minutes of my 45 minute commute on a bad day)

Yesterday was my first day in the jacket and helmet (old helmet was an HJC Von Breaker) and I was pleased with the look and feel of it all. It was about 75 yesterday and the vents in the jacket kept me cool enough to raise hairs with just a t-shirt underneath.

If you're looking into short gloves, look at some Alpinestars SPS gloves. I have them and they're awesome. Only use them for hot weather, though. If it's cold, I'll wear my SP-1 gloves.
