Title: F15 tour shield.
Post by: terry1013 on March 26, 2005, 03:26:14 PM
Hey just wanted to rate this thing for general info purposes here.
Its still in the 30's here in Ohio. Tried riding my "New to me" 96 GS500 and found the wind at 55 was hard to handle, bout takes my head off. And its mighty cold.....
Did a lot of searches online and here and pondered the Plexistar II and this F15 tour shield. Wanting to keep a little of the sport look thing going on with my GS I opted for the F15 tour shield. A little taller than the F15. I bought it online at MAW for 75.00 & 20.00 shipping. I ordered it on the 14th and recieved it via fedex on the 23rd. Mounting hardware was included, great. Installation took a little thinking, 1 page instructions not very user friendly. Got it installed in about 20 minutes. 2 point mount at the headlight assembly. I was concerned that it would move but has held up good so far and remained in the position I installed it, top bounces or kinda wiggles in the wind but its ok, not flapping at me or anything.
I like it a lot, I was concerned that it was too small from the pics but on install it keeps with the "look" of the bike IMHO. Down the road we go and it really has cut out the blast in your chest and upper body.   Still feel wind on my helmet but its not pulling my head back as before. I can duck in behind it and feel relatively protected.
So 96.00 installed, does the trick and looks pretty good.  :thumb:

If I remember correctly, an F15 came on my project bike. Is that the one with the double hump? The look wasn't right (IMHO) for a red 90 GS with the white and metal gray tape set. The screen was dark or black and just wasn't my thing. I sold it on ebay.

Now on a black GS with black frame and silver engine....

Your's was a functional need rather than visual. It is really great when both things come together.  :thumb:

Yeah the F15 is a dark, Humpy looking thing that I would describe as a batwing looking hunk up there. The tour shield has light tint and has a different pitch about it with just the slightest up deflection at the top. Lends more to an angle upwards to help higher up on the body. Again, I'm really happy with it.

Here's an example of what I mean about the F15 and color scheme....
