My throttle cable doesn't have any free play. If I twist it, it stays there (carbs are off). Will it need lube or replacement? Also, where the heck do ya get a 'lubricator tool'? And what kind of lube? And where do you get it? And since No. 2 pencils are so friggin' popular, why aren't they No. 1?

Do not know about the cables

The # on the pencils refers to the hardness of the lead :lol:

I'm not sure what you're *supposed* to lube them with, but I've used chain lube on mine... I figure it's not as thin as WD40 and not thick grease either... Anything is better than nothing :lol:

The cable is working correctly the way you describe it with the carb being disconnected. The return spring is on the carb.

Maybe I didn't understand correctly but if you twist the throttle with the carb off the cable shouldn't spring back. But if you twist the throttle one way and then back the other way and it doesn't return it will need to be lubed or replaced.

Derek is right. It is the spring on the carbs that makes it snap back. put the carbs back on and it will work fine, probably.
