Title: Car valves = bike valves ...
Post by: The Buddha on March 28, 2005, 03:41:05 PM
OK so tell me ... I found some Suzuki samurai valves that will need machining for the savage ... now anyhting I buy will need machining except for suzuki stock ones ... whihc I'd like to use as total last resort ... so basically I want to try the samurai valves ... reason is ... they fit the guide nice and tight ... nicer than the stock valves ... but its not too tight ... about perfect ... OK tight side of perfect ... but will they wear a little during break in ... I think they will ... Any differences between car valves and bike valves in terms of materials etc ... and do guide bores get bigger as they heat up ... and they do expand more than the valve does right ??
Cool.

OK the worst part is this ...
The savage valves broke at the part that is necked ... you know the part that dont enter the guide ... the valve also measured .273 in dia ... whihc is lower than spec ... The car valves are not necked and better yet ... they measure like .2745 or so ... and fit the guide so much better ... Further ... they are 1mm or so off (didn't measure just yet) for head diameter ... making it a easy turning job for someone with a lathe ... The retainer groove is identical ... but the 1 inch we need to lose from the length ... need new groove ... but that's it ... more work with a blank ... and may not fit as well ...
Cool.

This is a damn sausage ... A 1.6 samurai (88 - 92 maybe) prolly fits a GS ... 1.3 has 36 and 30 mm valves ... mine are 33 and 28 ... I believe I should use a 33mm exhaust blank with 7mm stem made by kibblewhite for my intake and cut it and groove it ... simple enough, and I guess take the 33 and turn its head to 28 and cut and groove it for the exhuasts ... Oh yea ... What does tulip angle do ??? say I have a 29 and I fit a 23 ... or vice versa ... I have no clue cos I dunno WTF the savage's tulip angle is ...  :x
And why do the neck the valve ... to help it break ???
Cool.
