Yeah but whatever you dont pay off after 60 months (IE anything remaining over like $5800 +9.95% interest) is subjected to the nad smashing fee of 17.9%

Those deals really only work in your favor when you pay more than $99 a month.

Ask me how I know as I'm trying to pay off my big screen as fast as possible :|

It's not that bad of a deal if you....

Don't make any late payments.

Pay more than the minimum payment.

Plan on paying/trading the bike in the 60 months.
-------------

I think they'll finance almost anybody up to five grand..

I went to a dealership to kill time the other day.  An '05 SV 650 (blue) caught my eye.  The salesman said he'd get me on it for $6100.00, or about $129 per month.  Then he tried to sell me a SV 1000 (silver).  I said, "I've been riding a GS 500.  Don't you think that is kind of a big jump?"
He smiled, waived me over the SV 1000, twisted the throttle back all the way and said, "Look son, you don't have to use all of it."
I just started laughing at him.

Yeah, the dealers usually don't consider the skill of the rider...just their credit ratings.  The dealer in Cleveland I visited this summer was VERY in tune with the rider's skill and price range. If I lived there, I would buy from them exclusively. Everyone there had a great attitude and seemed concerned about matching a bike with a rider's skill.

My local Suz dealer (South Carolina) asks me everytime I walk in, "Ready for a new bike?"  Nice guy, but a business man first. He never seems to stock mid level bikes either.

hence the nickname.....stealer.....most only care about 1 thing - SELLING....occasionally you'll find somebody with compassion.....but they don't tend to stick around too long....

All the nice guys at my local Suzuki stealer work at the parts desk...everyone in the shop or on the floor seem like your typical shady salesman.

When I bought my R1 a few years ago, the salesman literally drilled me on riding experience, track time, etc. before he would tell me more about the bike.  I thought that was pretty cool.  I told him that all of my future new bike purchases will be at that dealership.

OK, Im not going to lie anymore.  I want to participate in suzuki fest.

I'm going to get out my financial calculator when I get home and figure out what one would owe on an 05 sv650s, after paying the minimum 99 a month for 60 months.   At the aforementioned interest rate, one would probably end up owing around 1 - 1.5k when the rate changes.

JCH....more like $3K - $4k....

bike cost:
6399 +
ttl+
shipping+
setup

could cost about $7200 - $7500

then you've got to add in interest charges of about $1500

so $9kish - $6K = $3k left to pay.....

of course you could get the bike for less....and have a trade in.....then you'd be in that $1k price range....

Close to what I was thinking.  I was using lowest price available which here in LA is 6700 OTD plus interest charges of 1-1.5k

(7700 to 8200) - 6k = 1700- 2200 or so.....

Similar calculation ;)  I'll figure the exact interest rate when I get home.  :)

Plan on paying/trading the bike in [way less than] the 60 months [or any other timespan].

This is the only reason IMO that anyone should finance anything no matter how sweet it initially seems. 5 years is ridiculously too long to be paying for any vehicle -- not to mention having to swallow the well known depreciation hit after the first year. That's just me and my miserly thought process though, do what makes you happy.

I can tell you this... My bike is financed on the plan... And yes.. I'm making more than the monthly payment after putting a few hundred down (didn't need to put anything down but I did).

A little over $30 of each payment goes to intrest/fees when you send the $99. But remember anything over the payment goes right to principal.

The good thing about the plan is... If you are ever get into a jam, it's not hard to come up with the minimum payment. And if your credit isn't too strong, they'll still offer you a $5000 limit.

JHC... One should make more than the minimum payment. The minimum payment is just that... THE MINIMUM I would suggest figuring the payment out to $150 or better. The regular rate of 17 something % is a ball buster no matter how much is financed. Plus your credit will look better if you're ahead on the loan and the intrest is only 9.9%

I agree.  If you read up you'll see I had the same response initially ;)

If I were to go in it would probably be a minimum 4000 down payment.  I'm just saying..... it sure would be nice to have an SVS  ;)

Unless your credit is really, really bad I doubt you'll have to put anything down.. The girl that runs the numbers at the dealer where I bought mine said if you have two open and current accounts you'll get the $5000 approved even if there's some bad stuff on your report.

I had like three accounts open, two with great intrest rates and one with a really high intrest rate. And of course an old dentist bill I've been avoiding.. When they called in to the finance company the lady asked to speak with me, she thought it was strange that one of those accounts was started when I lived in Seattle and the others were opened in Ohio. She asked me to verify my current address and my old address in Washington and asked how long my credit card has had the 9% rate and if it was a promotional rate. Then I signed the paperwork.

I think I'll go back to that dealer when I'm ready for another bike... I was in Cleveland for the CycleWorld show and the finance girl was working in the Ducati display (she sells too) and I'm really fond of the 800ss right now...

I forgot something... The default rate is like 20 or 23%... Don't be late on a payment!

What's the depreciation hit have to do with financing?  You're going to take it either way.  Unless you plan on selling while your loan is still pear shaped (ie you owe more than its worth) its really a non factor.

stoobings.....

.....you may want to price other ins. agencies.....my SV costs $500 yr.....I'm 27 and married w/ 1 ticket on my record.....but my ins. has been the same since 2003 (when I bought the bike)

remember - every ins company rates bikes differently.....some companies will rate the SV high (I just checked GEICO - $5k yr for me!!!).....others will rate it lower (I currently have American Family).....MSF discount will help....so will have renters (or homeowners ins)......

.....don't stop looking just cause you hit one little stumbling block.....additionally.....I'd recommend staying away from the big name companies....Progressive, Geico, USAA.....for some reason they always rate high....

.....lastly, you're paying alot for the GS.....I was paying in the neighborhood of $200 yr when I bought mine (24 yr old, not married, full coverage, etc.).....you might just want to price around period!!!!

yup, i guess so.  what, they don't trust me?

one more reason to love the gs right? :)
(or is that 2200 more reasons?)

i'm going for a ride

Mastrind-
I was paying a whole lot less until last year, like less than half of what it is now.  but they say "oh don't worry, everyone's rates went up", yeah that makes me feel better :nana: haha.   Thanks for the advice, i'll keep fighting the good fight and do some looking around.

You usually get a better deal on the insurance when you have your auto/home/life, or anything else with the same company...

FETTCOLS = insurance agent (sells high risk auto)
