they are what i have on my bike and I am very happy with them.
I'm pretty sure that's what I've got on my bike - they were on there when I bought it...
bridgestone battlax bt-45's
Bt45s, excellent tires
for all you guys doing the knee dragging. what model tires are you using?
Street GS
Bridgestone BT010 120/70 front (on GSXR 750 wheel) Bridgestone BT020 150/70 rear (on Bandit 400 wheel)
Race GS
Metzler Rennsport RS1 super soft front, 120/70 (on GSXR 750 wheel), Metzler Rennsport RS2 soft rear 160/60 (on '89 GSXR 750 wheel)
Paul
I have Avon AM51/52...cost much less than bt45s and it's a great tire overall...just ordered another set...so i should be good for this season...
Michelin Pilot Powers 120/70 & 190/50
I'm not sure what's on the GS500....they're still in good shape. I'm sure I'll be doing a search on this forum for tires in not too long.
hey are you guys running bt45's with the V or H rating?
Is V rating unecessary?
Ride(fast)safe.
Jonah
unneccesary. H is rated up to 130 mph? Gs won't hit it.
I have stock Bridgestone exedras (as in "exedra" sucky ) but will be upgrading to Pirelli sport demons in the next month or so.
Metzler Z6 110/70 front, 150/70 rear on a bandit rim.
110/80 AV45 frt and 140/80 AV46 rear on the 02 GS and 110/70 BT010 frt and 140/80 AV36 rear on the 97 GS.
hey secondgen... I just ordered pirelli sport demons front and rear 110/70 front and 140/70 rear.
Cost me...everything out the door $180. My friend will mount my tires for free (moto repair class)
I'll let you know how they feel. Although it will be kind of hard to compare since I've had the gs for like 2 weeks, with an exedra on the back and old tire in the front that won't hold it's pressure.
Jonah
I got one of those on the rear, with a BT-45 on the front. Replaced a BT-35 about year and a half ago, I like the Michelin, I tend to be rough on tires and this one has held up better than the old Battleax did.
Had Michelin Pilot Sports on my GS since I took it home from the dealer, had them swap out the stock POS's after reading here how sucky they were. Got 9.1K out of the first front, 4.5K out of each rear, now on my 2nd front and 3rd rear.
Sticky as all heck, but being replaced by the Pilot Powers, so after this set is trashed, I'll find something different with more mileage capability, probably.
Of course, the GS will be my little bro's by then, or back in my dad's hands and I'll be thrashing my YZ426 motard...
I have Sport Demons you guys will like them very much 8)
For the V of H rating. I would go with the V Rating. Even if you will never hit the speed rating there are other things that go into it that rating. I have found in general that the higher the rating the better perfomance you can expect out of the tire aka cornering, braking, and responce. That said they are usualy runn stiffer side walls so the ride might be a little harsher.

Nice deal! I found a place I can order 'em for $158 (shipped) but I'll still have to pay $30-40 for mounting. Should still be under 2 bills though.
Please do review 'em when they've been on for awhile. I plan to do the same.

Which size rear did you go with? I've heard the 140 can throw off the handling a bit so I'm leaning towards the 130 but if you have any input, I'd like to hear it. That's my last decision before buying.
Dave
I went with stock sizes and they perform great, I would just go with stock sizes.:)
Why go with larger? :dunno:
avon AV something or the other... 36? on the rear. I don't remember what on the front.
My rear avon is kind of square though.. cause it takes an hour of riding to get the the twisties

I use my GS as a commuter so I like the (slightly) larger contact patch the 140 tire provides. But I also take trips to the mountains/twisties so I don't want to throw the handling off too much. Hmm .. decisions, decisions. I'll probably just stick with 130. Thanks for the feedback!
Out of curiosity, what kind of lifespan are you getting?
I put 400miles on them so far so it is hard to say.
They still have nipples
Haha, should be plenty of life left then. ;)
my sport demons just got here.
Why does my front 110 looks so skinny? It's totally disportionate. And looks a lot smaller than my stock 110.
Jonah
Avon HKM AM51/52's (http://www.avonmotorcycle.com/us/en/Product.asp?ProdType=TouringXply), better and cheaper than stock in every conceivable way. Good wet grip, good dry grip, great turn-in, great wear life, awesome price. I drag pegs on rare occasion on these no problem, but there are better tires for trackheads.

Jonah, did you verify it's a 110/70 on the sidewall? Maybe they goofed and sent the wrong size. Mine will hopefully arrive in a week or so.

Looks like you and I are about the only ones using Michelins. I have the radials- Pilot Road on the front and Macadam90 rear, both in the stock sizes. They have been great, although I only get about 10,000km from a rear.

yea I love the tires they even do great in the rain! if you ride them hard then stop and feel the rear tire they get nice and sticky! and on a bike thats what i want. STICKY
exedras! yeah baby!
used DOT race tires from a SV650 or GS/EX
B-stones all the way
I run the Pirelli Sport Demons, stock size. I'm very pleased with them. I just upgraded to the Progressive springs with 15W fork oil. It really feels planted now, especially in the corners.

If you really mean that, I can understand where your name comes from. :P
I use Pirelli MT75.
They are cheap inexpensive, and very sticky, but they will not last much doing knee dragging.
Driving them easy, they will last 10000 miles.
I ordered stock size Pirelli Sport Demons. They should be in and mounted this week.
Stock size Pirelli Sport Demons.
The bike had the original tires on it (5k miles, but 10 years old) when I bought it 3 months ago. The Pirellis are FAR superior. More stable, better grip.
Shinko "006 Podium" V rated radials... 110/70 Front and 140/60 rear. Very happy with them. Saw them in an earlier post and decided to try them out based on their specs and price... ran me about $110 for the pair.
B-45s, I know folks here like em a lot and for commuting they are awesome you get alot of miles out of them but for the twisties and knee draggin they suck or maybe I just dont have the skillz to use em yet ... I have HEARD that the Sport Demons or the M1s are awesome but you lose mileage ...
Got like 70 miles on my new sport demons. I went with stock 110 in front and 140 in back. No problem at all fitting the rear.
I still have about an inch of slippy slick stuff on both sides. I think it's gonna be there for a while...as a noob....it's not like I'm draging stuff.
So far I really love them...but then again, turns out my front tire was completly dry...11 years old! When I broke the beads, white smoke went flying all over the place and it broke in pieces.
