Let me tell ya'll about the morning I had. Going to work as normal just about to hop on the on ramp to I-10. When the long line of cars I was following start to break. I'm thinking that is natural as we have to slow down for the turn. When a slow break turns into an all out stop. Well as the braking fliters back down the line it gets more abrupt. My the time it got to where I was at the car in front of me hits the car in front of him. I locked up the front wheel in an effort to avoid hitting him. I did manage not to hit him, but I dropped the bike. I landed on my feet so I was ok. Luckily the car behind me stopped in time and didn't make me a sandwich. They even got out and helped me lift up the bike again.
So on the bike the Suzuki sticker on the crank case came off and I broke the tip of the brake handle. The bike had some problems starting, but fired up. I tried to put it in gear, but I couldn't get it out of 5th. So I tried to just push it off to the side. Which doesn't work real well while in gear. Meanwhile it comes to find out the cops had shut down the on ramp due to a tanker wreck on the Interstate. Which is basically what caused the pile up. A cop comes back toward me telling me to get the bike off the road. I told him I'd like to but I couldn't get the bike in neutral. :x Before he could help me get it off a car trying to get on the Interstate almost takes me out before they realize I wasn't moving. The cop even jump away from the bike so he wouldn't get hit. :dunno:
Finally I get the bike off the road and try to figure out what the heck is going on. For whatever reason I finally get it into neutral and then into 1st. I'm waiting for traffic to go by so I can get back on the road when for whatever reason the first to cars in both lanes come to a stop. This causes at least a 6 car end to end crash in the right lane. Not sure about the left. So I decided it was a great time to leave before something else happened. :nana: Sorry about the length. Just thought I'd share.
and you know what you need to do at lunch to make it better, ride to the local watering hole, have a few brews and get a dui. get your boss to come bail you out and then ask for the rest of the day off. :mrgreen:

whew.....and I thought I had a scary time of it this morning.....
I was taking the side streets to work/class (I work at the school)......I was in the right hand lane (3 lanes on each side).....I was merging left into the center lane to get around a bus.....when the bastard in the center lane locks em up fast.....
apparently about 1/2 mile ahead a fire truck was coming our way.....and this A-Hole parked it in the middle lane!!!.....
I decided the safest thing to do was split the car and bus.....no way to get to the left lane.....and cars behind us coming up fast.....I was nice enoungh to thrash his right mirror on the way past......and fortunately that was all.....I looked behind me when I'd passed both the bus and the jerk.....just in time to see him get rear-ended........
.....nice guy that I am.....I turned around to make sure everybody was OK.....then I waited for the cops to show up....
amazingly......I didn't get in trouble......but both drivers were cited......it was almost comical...how pissed both drivers were when I rolled out...so YEAY to the bike!!!

Glad you're ok - always leave lots of space in front of you and behind you if possible! :o
I really didn't think quick enough to try weaving out of the lane. Though there were cars in the lane to the left of me and the only other option was to go off on the small part of the road on the right which after thinking about it I don't think I would have wanted to do anyway. Mostly because I was on an overpass with the Interstate below. Loose gravel and all that would have been pretty scary.
You didn't get in trouble for messing up the guy's mirror? I'm glad you got out the the way. Yesterday was obviously a day for all the crazy drivers to come out. I saw a couple other accidents. Maybe all the planets were in alignment. lol. :cheers:
Oh yes! That is biggest thing I learned yesterday. To give a bit more space in between me and the other guy. Hopefully I will remember this lesson and won't get caught short again.
After thinking about it though I'm glad I was on the bike, because if I had been in my truck I don't think I would have been able to stop in time. So that at least was a small blessing.
