Hi everyone,
Yesterday I filled up my gas tank from a 5-gal portable container. Today, I noticed a large pool of gasoline around the bottom of my bike. I had trouble starting it. Even with the choke all the way on, the RPMs never went up to 4000 like they usually do. Does this sound like a stuck float needle? Is the solution to bang on the float bowls?
The bike has been in "PRI" for several months, and the gas never leaked out until today. I could never drive it if I left it in "ON", because it kept stalling.
Yea see float needles wear and lose spring power and its fine, they are meant to function fine even then .... under normal use that is ... you have 5 gallons of fuel putting fluid pressure, as well as the fact that it was in prime when you filled ... making for surges in pressure ... You know a full bucket actually weighs less than a 1/2 bucket if you are holding it under a waterfall ... anyway ... so just put it in res or on and drian out the gas from the bowls and see if it fills up ... and works fine ...
Cool.
Srinath.
couple of things
1) your float needles are probably stuck. is the gas leaking out a tube connected to the airbox? If so, then stuck floats. that's why it's leaking gas.
2) not running on prime. there is a hose that connects from the right carb to the frame mounted petcock. it's fairly easy to spot... make sure theres no cracks in it, and that it's connected. it connects near the top of the right carb, and goes down underneath the airbox and up the petcock.

1) Yes, there is gas coming out the tube. Stuck floats it is, I guess.
2) It will run on "PRI", it doesn't run on "ON", it starts sputtering after a block or two of riding. I will need to test this and see if it's still this way.
Thanks for the advice guys!
