Title: converting an E to an F
Post by: cheesy on April 01, 2005, 12:14:46 PM
okay what all is needed... brackets...  what else? anyone done this?

I really want to get the wind protection etc of the faired F model... without the $$$$ of buying an F...

What is compatible as far as tank, seat, rear plastics, etc?  Do these need to be replaced to use the fairing?

I think the tank on the F is smaller...

No, tank of F is bigger. All you would need are the brackets to hold on the fairing. The nose piece is connected to a brace on the steering stem. You would have to weld this bracket on to hold the new headlight.

The tails of the E's wont swap FYI, the subframes are different in 01+ models.

are the subframes actually shaped different... or are brackets just welded in different places?

how about the seat lock? I see the F's is built into the rear plastics.... do I need the whole assembly or just the actual lock?

The brackets are in the same place just shaped differently. I guess you could put 01 brackets on if you really wanted too. As far as the seat lock, i dont remember. Sorry.

I got somehting I was working on ... its going to get sold in a couple weeks ... I may offer (most likely) the brackets alone as a kit ... and yea tail is very different ... the back end is steeper and shorter ... but I have worked around that ... Just the front needs to be fixed up now ... Minimal welding needed ... BTW wind protection ... nope ... Looks cool all crotch rocket like ... OK fine I'll give you that ...
Cool.

Title: F to E

I was curious about going the other way.  Taking the sides off an F and possibly replacing the fairing with a naked headlight.  How would it look/is it possible to go with just the fairing or would that compromise structural integrity somehow.  I personally prefer the look of the E but it's going to be hard to find a used one anywhere around here.  The local Suzuki place doesn't have a 500 so I haven't been able to look at one yet.  Next time I get to a bigger dealership I'll be checking it out.

OK You can take off the fairing and swap the headlight etc ... and I'll trade you the parts you need (headlight, ears, and swivel things on the forks, all sweetly powdercoated in shiny black - Heck I can even add triples to match as well as a dash top plate - They should all be black y'know )... for the first crack - no pun intended - at the fairing (what color is it BTW   ) What is near impossible it to get a 89-00 tail to fit on a 01+ bike ... as long as you not doing that ... you'd be fine ...
Cool.

Haven't actually purchased a bike yet, however, if it can be done fairly simply I was considering a new '04 if I can find one or an '05 if not.  Have never owned a bike though so I'm really looking around for used ones first.  Just kind of hard to find anything used in NE Oregon.  The most recent MSF course was full so I have to wait until July now anyway.  Oregon does have a learning permit that would let me ride around in parking lots under a licensed rider's supervision but I really just want to take the course so probably nothing will happen until then.
