Title: 04 500F engine knock....help!!!!
Post by: Rousie13 on April 03, 2005, 05:58:02 PM
Well I have about 225 miles on my bike and theres a noise that I don't like at all.  It does it pretty much when the bikes not fully hot.  It's coming from the lower engine/clutch/transmission area on the left side of the bike or it sounds like that anyway.  It sounds like a rolling or tumbling of metal.  I have to call my dealer tomorrow, but I wanted to see if you guys had any input on this situation.

I have had a similar problem when i got my bike out of winter storage, it's a very faint noise that meets your description.

sounds like the infamous knock caused by camshaft movement? it apparently is more of an anyoyance than a problem.  so dont worry about it.

Yah. All GS's do it. My 04 did too. Don't worry. It goes away with miles. Or you just don't notice it anymore. Not sure. I'll try to listen to it next time I ride. My 04 has 2600 miles on it.
Title: Soft thunk
Post by: The Buddha on April 03, 2005, 09:16:07 PM
Cam shaft side drift sounds more like a soft thunk type noise ... and definetly from the head/valve cover area ... Lower end = goats, or starwalts or some else ... counterbalancer or  ...
Cool.
