Title: Fork Gaiters
Post by: juno on April 04, 2005, 11:19:05 AM
Do you think Kawi W650 gaiters will fit the GS?  The W650 forks are 39mm with 5.1 inch of travel.  I think GS is 37 mm.  Thanks!

Yep, the GS has 37 mm tubes.

Going for the classic (ancient) look or just trying to keep salt spray off the metal?

My bike didn't come with them either....I want to paint them black and have little skull and crossbones on them.  That way people will know who they are dealing with when they see my bike.

I kinda like the way they look.  The GS is weird in that from the fron it doesn't look too sporty.  I get a lot of waves from Harley guys because from the fron they can't tell what I'm riding.

Anyway--i think gaitors look cool in a retro kind of way, and also are quite functional.

The 02 GS has permanently attached "fork guards" though, so i'm not dure how it would look with both.  Probably loke fork protection overkill.  I'll have to see if they can be cut off.

They may fit very well! We have 4.7 inches of travel, so our forks wont squish them too much, but there may be too much gaiter. Black zip-tie the top and bottom of each gaiter.

I'm glad you found an alternative. I used to have '72 Norton Commando fork gaiters on my '87 Yamaha SRX250. And, they looked good, too.

These are the Triumph fork guards I currently have:
