Title: How do I check oil level on 92 gs500e?
Post by: eddie500 on April 04, 2005, 01:21:02 PM
Seems like stupid question.. and this bike is my 3rd motorcycle.

But I bought this bike for a temproary stay in Europe. And my owners manual is in another language.
But how exactly do I check the oil on a 92 gs500e?

What I don't know for sure is, should I have the dipstick screwed all the way in?
Should I have the bike on center stand?
Should the engine be hot or cold?

Can someone explain the whole ordeal.. so I do it correctly.

Thanks.

Bike sitting level, dipstick resting on case - NOT screwed in.

I don't put mine on a stand - do it on level ground with engine cold.

Does it make a difference if its on its center stand or slanted a bit on the kick stand?

Needs to be level up, sit on the bike and check it with you right hand, or use the center stand. Otherwise, the oil will settle on the left side of the engine and appear to be low.

The kawasaki ninja 250 & 500.. were nice with that glass view of the oil..

Was so easy to check. Didn't have to get dirty.

Oh-well.

I hate the glass.  My DL650 has one.  Checking the oil leve is almost
a two man operation.  Much easier with the dipstick.
