Title: riding a scary canyon
Post by: mes_423 on April 07, 2005, 02:25:37 PM
well, im not new to riding or anything. but i would like opinions befor i take this ride.
well there is a canyon ride ive been wanting to take for along time now, but there is this mile strech that has a sharp decline and its pretty twisty.
what would be the best way to take this decent?
to give you a idea on how steep it is. well if your driving a car down this hill you NEED to ride the brakes all the way down while taking the turns otherwise your speed just picks up like a mad man.
thanks guys :thumb:

I would think about 120mph will surely be slow enough for you.. probably too slow for me though. :)

I'm not sure if this is the best way, but when I am going downhill I am generally not clutching to slow down.  I use a low gear to keep my speed low.  Maybe someone will let me know if this is bad for the tranny or something.

ride at a pace that is comfortable for you and in a gear that will keep your speed constant (meaning it'll rev up high between turns and drop as you brake).

actually if its your first time there ride at a pace well below what is comfortable, to accommodate the unknown.

Take it easy and put it into a much lower gear than normal so the
engine braking will do much of your braking.

fast enough to have fun, but slow wnough that the half rack won't fall off the tank, this will also test how smooth are.
