Title: Dammit, atleast he's ok
Post by: sprint_9 on April 07, 2005, 11:31:08 PM
Well my best bud wrecked his bike pretty good tonight, luckely he wasnt hurt to bad.  He was out waiting for me to get off of work and go riding with him when a guy turned left infront of him leaving him no where to go.  I just talked to him in the hospitol and he said he tried to swerve but didnt have any room so he layed it down and both him and the bike hit the car.  He got knocked out so Im guessing he has a concussion, his right shoulder is sore, and his liver must have taken a shot cause the doc was concerned about it.  But that was most of the damage to him, no broken bones.  He was in good spirits though, he was glad he didnt have to worry about layin his bike over anymore and I welcomed him to the club.  There running some more tests in the morning and then he might get to go home.  Just wanted to do a little venting, dont think Ill be sleeping very good tonight.

Just went through the same, my friend hit a gaurd rail and then got pitched over the high side right in front of me then his bike cartwheeled infront of me thankfully i missed both he ended up with a broken collar bone and some gravel rash and bruising good thing he was riding a BMW or he would lost his leg thankfully the barrell on his motor hit the rail and not his leg.
So get some rest because he will need your support also best not to talk bikes with him for a week it just makes people feel bad after an accident and yes you dont feel good after seeing or hearing about it. It has kept me off my bike for 2 weeks but thankfully the call of the road can be heard once again and its time to ride again.
Wish your friend all the best  :thumb:

Quote from: sprint_9... his right shoulder is sore, and his liver must have taken a shot cause the doc was concerned about it....

It is good to hear he is being cared for. Keep his (and your) spirits up.

I work in hospitals and clinics  and have seen my share of ER trauma. One radiologist friend said the liver is often damaged due to impact injury because it has the consistancy of "pudding" to use his words. Our medical GSTwinner from OZ can help clarify the anatomy here. It will heal though.

From anecdotal references it seems the left hand turner is the bane of bike riders everywhere.  :guns: Car drivers should be required to take the MSF course if they are involved in an accident. It will give them a idea of what being naked is really all about.

Sorry to hear about your friend.  Thank God for helmets--he would probably be dead if he was riding without one.

He actually didnt have a helmet on, when I got to the accident scene last night I was real worried about what shape he was in, another riding buddy was there already and said the cops were yelling at him and he wasnt responding, but he eventually came around at the hospitol.  He had all of his other gear on though, which saved him alot of rash on his hands.  Thanks for the support.

Sorry to hear about his get off. that really sucks. I have to wonder though why he wasn't wearing a lid? Was he wearing a jacket? Gloves? boots?

Sorry to sound negative, but if your not geared up, your gonna get hurt, because your gonna go down eventually. Personally, I cannot imagine going out without my lid, jacket gloves and boots on.

We had a double get off this weekend. I was in a group of about 20 and a guy on a CBR ran up to our group to see who was there. Anyway, he was in the lane next to us, looking at the group when the truck in front of him jammed on his brakes. he slammed into the truck. I mean he endo'ed and dented the tailgate in with his shoulder. Our group leader reacted and lowsided and slid her Ducati under another pickup in front of her.

Anyway the moral of the story is everyone was geared up. There was only a bloody nose on the CBR guy and a jammed thumb for our group leader. The CBR was completely trashed, the Ducati just dented the tank and popped the clutch assembly off the handlebars. She only scuffed her Icon ridinig jeans. Had anyone NOT been geared up they would have been seriously jacked up.

ATGATT...All The Gear, All The Time.

He had a jacket and gloves on, he probley wouldnt have gotten hardley any damage to him if he would have had a lid on.  I think through all this Im going to be compelled to go out and finnally buy some gear, it really saved his hands and arms.
