Title: Header bolt Pg 257 on Clymer: Is it M8 1.25 or M8 1.0?
Post by: Rippa_MD on April 10, 2005, 04:44:56 PM
I took out one of the header bolts and I thought I picked the right one from Lowes. I purchased the M8 1.25 x 40 cm. But when I tried I feel like I'm grinding away the threads so I just stopped there and came here for some good old Gstwin.com help.

Did I purchase the right one or what? Or good thing I stopped because the M8 1.0 x 40cm is the actual bolt? Lil' Help..

WOWWWW.

Just one of the header bolts was missing a bolt and got to tell you...
What a difference. My bike wasn't giving me the usual mileage and it was sounding somewhat louder at the front.

Once I tighten all the bolts it was a big difference in performance and sound.. WOW.

I went to get replacement header bolts for my loose header and went to home depot.  There I found a 8mm-1.25 X 40mm hex bolt/ hex head.  The head is a bit different on these, It doesnt have the (what looks to be) allen head like my existing bolts do.  Will these still work?  Just wanna make sure even though it may be a stupid question.   :dunno_white:

It'll probably work but I'm sure you can find the allen head bolts at Lowe's.  That's where I get alot of little bits and pieces.

They have a lot of drawers with specialty items, washer, clips, bearings...........

Might want to pick up some 5/16 split lockwashers too.  I use the one's with a goldish coating on them for my V&H headers.  Seem to be slightly better quality and haven't rusted on me yet.

Good luck
