Title: What am I doing wrong?
Post by: fettcols on April 13, 2005, 12:18:13 PM
Okay... installing the wileyco and flange...

Now either the brake lever is going to hit the flange or the can is going to hit the banjo bolt on the rear caliper...

Can I get some instructions here?

'04 500f never crashed or banged up... straight stock... Planning on tack welding it when I get it into a good position..

The can can be sorta muscled to the outside and clamped ... The pipe and stuff will give a little ... fit it so the can might hit the brake banjo and catch it and bend it a bit away ... Yea Have someone hold the bike while doing it ... else you will end up on the floor wiht the bike on top of ya ... and just use enough force to get it where you want ...
Cool.

I had to bend the clamp a little to get it to work.

can anyone post a side view?

Would be greatly appreciated..

I'm going to try it on the side stand and see what kind of issue I'll have with the banjo bolt..

Mine is a little different (not a srinath flange) but should still bolt on with the clamp the same way.

Well, I have it so it will clear the banjo bolt and just clear the brake lever..

Before I fire up the mig welder I would like a second opinion (or two).

Don't ask about the grinder marks on the frame just above the stock exhaust cut... It was bad moment when that grinding wheel broke!

Well... I'm going to tack weld it and drop the whole system to finish the weld.. Hopefully it goes back on the same way..

It's probably going to be pretty rough filling in the gap on the lower side of the flange..

Yes.. It's on without having to bend anything.. It's going to come back off soon, I'm going to paint it and I might cut the center stand bracket off the stock pipe and weld it to the flange... Anyone else tried that?

i'm not sure if you realize this... but every single one of your pictures is very blurry... one blurry picture is par... shaZam! happens, but all of them?  do you have a weird lens on or what?

OK well Apart from blurred pics ... sounds like you made out OK ... You dont have muffler tape on the header ... But no biggie you're welding it ... The thing is ... they all were a shade different ... being all hand bent and fitted and welded ... so its likely that one fits fine on mine but is a bit off for you ... Anyway ... the things are a shade close ot hitting stuff cos I want the pipe to exit close to the bike and as high as possible ... somehting about mass centralisation and what ever ...
Cool.

try rotating it outward.  i ran into both the brake and banjo problems.  just rotate it out wards.  my pipe is a lil off but it can be fixed eventually.  i adjusted the flange to teh point where it wouldnt hit either then bolted the can on accordingly.. if u dont get what im sayin, let me know, i will try to explain better when im not tired

Quotebut every single one of your pictures is very blurry

Cheap camera = more money for beer and parts...

I didn't want to be posting a bunch of clear naked pictures...

I welded it together and it's good on the banjo bolt and the brake lever. I think I just needed a few minutes away from it to get it right..

The can is at a pretty steep angle but I like it.. and it will probably keep my girlfriend's foot nice and warm...
Title: I think
Post by: The Buddha on April 15, 2005, 01:08:41 PM
Also I think there were variances in the clamps and stuff making for one can to want to stay inside and another can to want to be outiside ... and heck cans themselves had things that were a bit off from one to another. Glad it fits.
