Title: noob

Hey people, just wanted to introduce myself since I just won an ebay auction for a 1989 GS500. Been eyeing one for a long time and this seemed like a good deal. I'm finishing the MSF course next week and hope to start riding right afterwards.  :thumb:  Any thoughts on the bike?

it seems like a good buy to me man no major body or frame damage, it only has 22000 miles on it and it as a slip on exhaust. so to me it seems like a good buy but im new to the bike scene and you may want to ask some of the other guys and gals.

eh you paid too much.  Not way too much.. but too much.  I bought my 89 for $750.. which is about what the guy I bought it from paid for it.

On the otherhand, it has a yosh pipe and a nice looking paintjob (from pics)

I've been tracking the GS's auctions on ebay and your price is the mid range of running 89's in the last week or so. There was a cherry, orginal paint 89 that sold for $1475 in Michigan.

Regardless, if you care for it and keep it up, it will repay you. Welcome to the group! I have a project '90 from ebay and a '90 donor chassis from a local junkyard. The GS is a great self-wrench bike and one that has a strong following.

i paid 1100 for my 94 with 7000 miles on it, that was last year.  It had a small dent on the top of the tank though.  You will love the gs for sure.  Remember to always wear gear.

Just wanted to give a little update, I passed the MSF on Saturday and picked the bike up yesterday (slightly scratching the front wheel in the process, d'oh!). Got a chance to ride around side streets yesterday and it was a blast, seems to have plenty of power and the Yoshimura exhaust is loud!!! (perhaps too loud, pity my neighboors) My plan of action is to have a mechanic look it over, do the inspection/registration deal and find a bracket for the windshield that came with it. Happy riding everyone!!
