Title: Oil Changing Nut
Post by: Nosferatoo on April 13, 2005, 11:44:27 PM
Couldn't find this in the FAQ and my search turned up zilcho...

What's the size on the bolt on the underside of the bike you loosen when doing the oil change?

I don't want to round that sucker off. The 11/16" and 17mm sockets seem to work but just wanted your opinions.

Thanks.

Lest everyone thinks that a 17mm socket will fit their oil drain plug ... there are actually two sizes depending on your model year.

See the What size socket for engine oil drain plug? (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7514) thread, especially the post by gsJack.

I got a couple, complete with oil pans, so when you strip it out let me know.

you know, i never remember what size it is, or even which system, so i always end up just trying a metric and an american.  one thing i noticed is that, while one of them is a tighter fit, there isn't one that fits that bolt _perfectly_ it's always just a hair too loose...
