I'm about to install my progressives...but I can't find the right PVC tubes from my HomeDepot...
what size, thickness or any other properties of PVC should i get???
they didn't come with spacers?
nope...
about 1 1/4" or 30 mm which ever is closer to the outside diameter of the spring without going more than 3 mm over,
I went and used a Schedule 40 end cap made for 1/2 inch pipe. Worked like a charm.
Ditto. Schedule 40 end cap.
so i just go into homedepot and as for Schedule 40 end cap.??
Yup, it will cost you a whole thirty cents or so!
COOL!
Hey Frost, wanna install your Progressives with me cause i have the springs, the 15wt oil and i'm going to buy the PVC pipe today

Thanks!

1/2" drive socket wrench (no socket on it) to get the tops off. allen wrenches (6mm or 8mm maybe?) to get handlebars off. I think thats it.

Joel - since you've got an 04F (like me) the fork cap bolt can't be removed with a 1/2" socket. It requires the right size socket for removal, unlike the older bikes. I can't remember the size, but I'll try to find out and edit the post. That's the only difference from the instructions listed on Pantablo's site :
http://pantablo500.tripod.com.
Joel/Frost - I went over to Rona/Lansing to pick up the PVC end cap. Unfortunately they don't carry a schedule 40 end cap for a 1/2" pipe. Instead, I walked over to the next isle, which has central AC pipes (also PVC), and picked up a 1x3/4" bushing. It did the trick. One end is open, and the other is slightly closed. I put the slightly closed side against the fork cap, and the open side against the washer/springs. Works like a charm!
A couple of notes. Having two work on this will make it MUCH easier. First, when you remove the bolt, be careful.. it has a tendency to fly off unless you're gripping it well as you losen. I learned the hard way. Secondly, putting it back in is a real pain. You'll need to press down quite hard (perhaps one of you can do this, as the other tightens) to have it catch the very FINE threads. But don't force it too hard, or you'll strip the threads.
Let me know if you have any questions. I'm in Markham/Unionville, so not too far. Unfortunately I'm in the office tomorrow so I won't be able to help out. However, I'm hoping we can all get together during the summer for a ride.
Good luck!
also, very important-only do ONE at a time. Otherwise you will have problems...
Thanks!...i live in markham too...i'll be going to Joel's place at 5:30...pm me if you wanna come give us a hand...
OH HELL. . .

don't hijack!!!
We need to get this done today!!!
 Didn't mean to hijack, check a local farm supply, they should large one large enough.
I used a gas syphon and some rubber tubing to get the oil out.
The best way is probably to take the tubes out and dump the fkuid--that way you can gett all the old oil out and also get most of the sediment out. Takes aLOT more time, though
If i take off front end...front wheel, handlebars, triple clamps (upper and lower), gauges....EVERYTHIGN have to come off...
how long do you think it'll take?
I live in a city...no farms around here for miles...
i bought 2 Scheldule 40 female end caps today...
are these the right ones?

The Black F's???!!?
I LOVE IT!
i'm taking more pics tomorrow
i put my mirrors back on (long stupid story)
and i put on a new sticker of a '46' in commemoration of the greatest rider who has ever graced this planet :
Quote from: FrostIf i take off front end...front wheel, handlebars, triple clamps (upper and lower), gauges....EVERYTHIGN have to come off...
Front wheel - YES
Handlebars - YES
Triple clamps - LOOSEN ONLY
Gauges - :? NO
After the wheel and fender are removed, the fork tubes will slide down out of the triples. Work on one at a time.
Quote from: Frosthow long do you think it'll take?
For your first time ... say 2 hours. 3 if you go slow and easy.

sorry man...i'll give you a hand next week...
but is this the right end cap???
I didn't answer about the end caps because I went a different route. (See the pictures in the Fork Spacers (http://gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=826) thread.)
But in that same thread shep_bannister confirmed that 1/2" Schedule 40 PVC end caps fit just right. If that's what the diagram is then I'd say you're good to go. :dunno:
