Well, i just disconnected everything off the front of the CBR. Brake lines, clipons, throttle cable/return cable, choke, all my electrics (ALOT OF ELECTRICS ON A CBR DAMN), and all that. I still have the wheels on so I can roll it around. Now a little later tonight im going to be using my ratchet tie downs to hoist the front end off the ground enough for me to take my forks off. It got to hot, lol. Now to my question...
Since im going to be using two tie downs on the center brace (a brace that goes between the frame) so hoist the front up just enough to pull the forks off, is there anything i should be wary about? Im going to angle tie downs out so the bike wont sway, but do I need to chalk the rear tire?? Thanks for all the info, my forks will be apart tomorrow and sent off on Monday ot aftershocks. I cannot wait :).
I don't know what putting chalk on your rear tire will do for ya...but you go right ahead....
Now Chocking it might help it keep from moving around...
By the way tie downs are not a great idea for lifting (much like a come-along..). They aren't made to lift vertical loads and will fail ( I broke one doing the same thing you are about to try ). You can use the hook/strap end to hang the bike with -just need to lift the bike up and tie it off.
If you have some big heavy duty ones (ratchet straps) you can probably get away with using them to pick it up -but they really aren't for vertical loads.
I have an electric hoist in my garage now for this kind of thing.
