Title: Question about assembly after reinstalling carbs
Post by: Tyrant171 on April 18, 2005, 10:28:37 AM
Well, I re-jetted my carbs and have since put them back in, but the way in which I did seemed very unnatural and extremely tight with the hoses, etc. I mean......I can put the carbs in easy, and then the airbox, but once I do that it becomes EXTREMELY difficult to hook up and route the hoses so that everything reaches everywhere. After I've put everything back, it becomes excessively difficult to make the ON and RES hoses reach the fuel tank-mounted petcock. I have to really pull hard up on the hoses to get them to reach the length I need to connect to the tank, meanwhile they're being squeezed harder and harder between the airbox and the frame in order to reach.

I just feel like I'm not putting the carbs/airbox/hoses back in correctly and that they're not fitting like they should be at all. I know it's a difficult thing to explain, but can anyone walk me by what I should install first, second, etc? I would totally appreciate any tips on the matter! Thanks!

Did you label the hoses before you took them off so they would be easier to re-route? Also, did you take digital photos of them before, so you'd have a frame or reference?

(Srinath, I got the jets you sent, thanks).

It's a tight fit in that area between the airbox and carbs, and the frame for me as well, but it is normal; that is all the area Suzuki allowed.

Well, it's not a matter of not knowing what hose goes where. I didn't need to label anything, because I know where everything goes from what to what. It's a matter of just fitting the hoses next to eachother, basically. Just how to work them through the frame........

Also, I'd just like to get some suggestions on what to put on first, what to hook up second, third, etc......

No, I didn't happen to take any pictures.

After you have the airbox screwed down and hook up all the cables to the carbs, I put the tank on and prop up the rear with a 4x4 (I've read that a roll of duct tape will work, too). Then, working from the right side of the bike, I connect the gas cap drain hose (the one right in front of the on/off tank mounted petcock), then the CA model overflow hose near the right edge of the tank (see me working my way out of there). Then, to the left side, where I make sure the hoses are front and back of each other, and do not cross over (that's what may be giving you difficulty), I attach the rear one first (so it's out of the way of the other one, also because I have to shove it up there more onto the short nipple for the clamp), and then the second one (I don't shove this all the way up, just enough for the clamp to be over the bulb of the tube). Then back to the other side, with a long screwdriver, to open the fuel valve.
