anyone know the torque settings for the crankcase, it says 6mm and 8mm bolts, well i hate to be different as i have just took the lump to bits ready for the output shaft, and mine are 10mm and 12mm, unless my head was up my ar*e at the time, will go round garage tomorrow and double check though
Are you measuring bolt diameter or head diameter? Torque specs are for the bolt diameter itself not the head diameter (flats). Love the little GS500 and I adore this forum.

you know when you get one of those days that you just want to go to sleep after you have grafted all day, then start messing around with toys till 10.30 at night, after i posted the pong went ping, you have just verified that other peoples brains still work at this time of the night, me head was a shed and me brains a garden, well thats my excuse and i am sticking by it
by the way, the reason for stripping is that i am putting an output shaft in, since taking it to bits, luckily i have found no more suprises, nice and clean , which was a suprise considering the state of the oil filter.
will be posting some pics when i get round to it, a couple of hidden bolts in there for those who do not use the manual, a bit like me till i need something, a bolt hidden under the starter and two alan bolts where the oil filter sits, luckily this did not have any hidden under the barrels like the fzr1000, input shaft retainer bracket bolts were a bit of a pig, they are tappered and just a cross head, had to cold chissel them out.but its sitting there ready to be put back together now.
