I need to get a new set of mirrors and I can't decide whether to go with carbon fiber or chrome. Chrome could be a little outrageous, but it could also end up looking cool as hell.
So what types of mirrors do you guys have on your GS's?
stock, black and chrome, one of each. someday when I quit crashing I'll get a matching set
Hey, how do you think these mirrors (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4543291084&category=35587&sspagename=WDVW) would look/work on a GS? Would they even be long enough?[/url]
yeah they are long enough, oh wait unless you wanted to see something behind you
I just can't get enough of your sarcastic wit.
Wait.....now I'm doing it, too. :nana:
just wait till you start drinking alone....
get good quality mirrors...cheap mirrors vibrate...
I've got Napolean ones...shorter than stock...and they are awesome
I got a set of bar end replacement nepoleans if you are intrested
No, but thanks anyway davipu.
These mirrors (http://www.ridegear.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/store/product/F-16936_Billet_Universal_Mount_Mirrors.html?E+scstore) are just so sexy.....and they come in short or long stem. I'm guessing that if I were to go for those that I should get the long stem?
fine then, go fall over and die.
Someday Im going to get a Bar-end, a good one too, like a LP.
hey, I got a set of neoplean bar end mirrors....
I was using SV650 mirrors; I think they look a lot better than stock ones, and they can be found for dirt cheap.
Unfortunately someone knocked my bike over and one of them broke. :x So now I'm back to stock.
Dave, bring the Napoleon's down with you to SD. I'll probably pick them up off you, cuz I'm sick of the POS buzzmachine stock chromie's on my '00. That, or I'll slap 'em on whatever bike comes down the pipeline next.
Do you have a full set that matches?
Maybe it's only me, but personally I kinda like the stock mirrors. Sure, they're a little cumbersome, but they fit the bike well I think.
Yeah, it's only you. That's OK, I can sell mine to ya when I get some real ones!
Really, I don't think they are too bad, but they are awfully tall and goober-looking, IMHO. Of course, I've only got the left on now to satiate the local cops.

or quit stumbling into it :thumb:
my bike never had mirrors then my daddy made me buy some...there cheap and the right one vibrates and i cant see past my arms. I never use them and just turn my head. I just tuck an elbow in when stopping to see how close the guy behind me is. But other than that I dont use them.
i just ordered these in black. not sure if they are going to fit though. couldn't find any info on the size of the base.

I used to have these on an '04. but they didn't look right. i sold them here but i don't remember to who. they definitely fit though on the instrument mounts on the handlebars.
Got sick of my old no-name bar-end POS's that vibrated all to hell all the time, so I got these CRG mirrors. (http://www.constructorsrg.com/store/page2.html) Expensive as hell, and are a little tricky to get on the bars just right, but totally worth it. Zero vibration from idle to redline, I love 'em. I'm seriously considering putting the old crappy ones back on when the time comes to pass on my GS, they're that good (and expensive).
Those bar end mirrors are nice! Did you just clamp it onto the handlebar grip or did you get the adapter? Any photos?

My digital camera is circa 1995 and is very beat up--the pictures it takes can only be described as "Drunken LSD-vision". My phone has a camera, but I have no idea how to get the pictures out to my computer. So, no pics for you, sorry.
I decided to try mounting those mirrors directly onto the bar before spending the extra dough on the internal mounts. I ended up clamping the mirrors onto the ends of the handlebar--this required me to move the grips and controls in very slightly (less than a half-inch, doesn't really affect anything). I kept the stock bar-ends, and the whole setup looks pretty nifty. :thumb:
Now, I had to rotate the mirror's handlebar clamps forward in order to keep the mirror bezels from resting on the bar-ends and vibrating. This means you have to take some care during mounting and dismounting the bike to keep your hands from whacking the mirrors, but once you get used to it it isn't a problem. The CRG's are very small, light, convexed out exactly right to give a good view, and do not shift or vibrate at all as long as you tighten the clamp properly. They stick out so little to the sides (maybe an inch past the bar-ends) that I find the folding feature to be somewhat redundant, but it's still a nice feature to have when parking in my tight garage. Other bar-end mirrors are comparable, no doubt, but these are such light-years ahead of the horrible mirrors I had that I don't regret the purchase at all.

That is it. Those are the ones. Where can I order those?

Yeah, I just ordered some. But I got the ones that are rectangular. We'll see. For $25, we'll see.
i got really cheap round mirrors from JC Whitney. they vibrate enough to be almost useless. the nice thing is the stems are really long (unfortunately this makes them the widest thing on the bike, giving me trouble lane-splitting) which means i have good visibility behind me (or would if they weren't so blurry).
i don't know if the stock sv650 mirrors would fit, but i'm betting they would and they look to me like they'd work really well.
looks wise, i don't think you can do better than round mirrors on the unfaired GS.
cheers,
will

Dammit!! Like, 10 mintues ago, that would be valuable information.
oops. sorry bout the timing there. i hadn't updated to see your last post.
the stock sv650 mirrors are $34 each, so at least it looks like you saved some $$$.
None on my current bike, lol.

I have his old CF look short stalk mirrors. They look good and I can see okay when I bring my elbows in a little.
Maybe Daniely can say hello to them again if he comes on the GS500 bay area ride in June. :)
Oh ill be there :) Hopefully on a new SV :).
