sv1000s or gsx R 600
pretty well matched.
Im itching for a faster and newer bike.
dont worry Im not selling my gs . I want to improve the GS more and more but would like a new bike to ride while i play with the gs.
or i could go all out
and go with the gsx R1000
for aobut 2000 more.

its alot of money ! decisions decisions. :dunno:
I'd go the SV, purely because I love twins, especially V-twins. They feel great and sound good even with stock pipes.

I'm no expert, but I have to think that the extra 60 lbs on the SV must make a difference in handling, plus the longer wheelbase, different suspension, etc.. Inline 4 vs. v-twin will also mean totally different torque curves.
The Gixxer is a race bike and the SV is a sport/touring (emphasis on touring for the 1000). For straight-line speed, I'll be they're similar, but handling-wise, those are completely different bikes. Ergos are totally different, too. That gixxer will be a monster in the corners, but you'll rack up some serious chiropractor's bills if you take it on a long trip.
That said, I'd go with the SV for what I want out of a bike: balance of comfort and performance. The bigger SV's are also selling poorly, so you can get them for not too much more than their little brother, the 650.
What kind of riding are you going to be doing is the most important question? Commuting, weekends only, trackdays or a little of everything.
I bought the SV1000S last November and I absoloutly love it. I bought it for the perfect mix of sport with comfort and of course the amazing huge Vtwin. The bike is comfortable and hauls a$$ and I reccomend it to anyone with the willpower to handle the power.
I ride alot and hardly drive a car anymore. i would like somthing decently comfortable. I saw a SV that was fully faired on the net and fell in love it looked so bad ass. I like the look of two headlights, i dont like the one headlight on the gsxr. and I like the torque curve of twin motors. why woudnt the sv1000s sell more?
Ive heard its soft. but its not like its stated to be a race bike. but im sure if i took it to the track I could tear up the road right?
i think im talking myself into the SV
and it sounds like Im gonna stick with the twin motor's
sounds like all of you guys feel the same way.
and I do have back problems already so maybe the gsxr wont be the best.
I have no idea whos this bike is but its soooo sweet looking.

.....talk about 2 really different bikes.....both of which are wonderful bikes....which you choose ultimately depends on what the main use will be.....
commuting, traveling, and the occasional twisty....then get the SV
lots of twisties, track days, not planning to stay in the seat long....get the gsxr600
......the reason the sv1k isn't selling as well is because of the fan base the sv650 has built....a lot of people are sticking to the 650.....it's less expensive, gets better gas mileage, easier on ins, and has more accessories in abundance....I've seen a lot of 650's on the road, and not too many 1k's......
.....are you planning to pick up a new bike, or a slightly used bike....you can pick up a year or two old sv650(s) for less then $4k.....you can get the 1k(s) for about $5500.....I don't know what the market is for the gsxr's so I can't comment on that....
....honestly....why I prefer my SV650S.....
I'm doing about 50 miles daily on it commuting....it works wonderfully.....
I had to go from clip-ons to a handlebar conversion (
because of my aching back).....(
the ergo's aren't as extreme as the gsxr's, but they were still too much for me)....
I get about 160 miles per tank of gas (
about 3.5 gal when the light comes on).....the sv1k gets between 85 and 110 mpt
I save about $400 yr insurance compared to what the 1k would have cost....[/list:u]
hmm. decisions decisions. Im gonna sit on it for a bit. I submitted my financing deal online and just waiting for the place to call me tomorrow or later today.
Im going to buy new because I hate trying to finance used.
Sounds like your mind is pretty much made up. You will not regret your choice. I sure haven't!
Check out this site for the SV1000S http://www.sv1000.zyns.com/. Check the online trading section for some SVs for sale. Someone is selling a basically new 2005 red SV1000S for $6500.
Good luck with the new bike.
