Ah! One of the GSTwinners did this already and I have been playing with it. It will require getting into the tach by one of two methods: (1) The "Bend the edges until you get the ring off" method; (2) The "File away the edge and you reglue the ring back on" method.
After that you have to disassemble the tach - carefully - and then do the mod. Reassemble - again carefully - and see if it works.
Do a search on "White face" gauges for several threads to this.
